Olympic qualifications
determined and Ambitious development programme in order
Nairobi,
Kenya, October 27, 2007-: The 2007 CAVB Ordinary congress
Presided by Dr. Amr Elwani expressed the great African Unity
when the representatives of the attending 33 countries declared
their full loyalty to the FIVB constitution and they expressed
their support to the CAVB Board of Administration to lead the
Continental volleyball to more progress and success.
The second and last day of the CAVB Congress showed
presentations of all the continental zones and commission
presidents which showed much progress since the continental
governing body decided to make the zonal competition as a
qualifier to the continental competition. The reports showed how
these competitions increased the number of participating teams
from 16 to 30 countries in 2007.

CAVB Congress starts with wide
support to the FIVB and Great Unity
Nairobi,
Kenya, October 26, 2007-: The 2007 CAVB Ordinary congress
Presided by Dr. Amr Elwani sends the full support to Both the
FIVB President Dr. Ruben Acosta and the FIVB Constitutions and
General Regulations in the opening day of the meeting held at
the Red Court Hall in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday. In Presence of
the guest of honor, the Kenya Commissioner of Sport Mr. Gordon
Oluoch, Elwani opened the meeting in presence of a Quorum of 33
countries and the meeting started by the FIVB Anthem.
The attendance clapped for the full declaration of all the
attending countries their loyalty to the world governing body
FIVB.

CAVB
Board of Administration Supports of FIVB Constitution
and Regulations
Nairobi,
Kenya, October 25, 2007-: The CAVB Board of
Administration during its meeting at the Red Court Hall
in Nairobi, Kenya prior to the 2007 CAVB Ordinary
Congress to be held in the same hall 26 and 27 October
supported the FIVB Constitution and showed their support
to FIVB President Dr. Ruben Acosta for his great work
for Africa since he took over the responsibility. CAVB
President Dr. Amr Elwani presented in a full report the
FIVB support to the African countries through the
previous Sap Programme and now through VCP.
The board presided by Dr. Amr Elwani put an ambitious
system for the African competitions aiming to attract
more sponsors and media to volleyball competitions
starting from 2008.

Board of
administration Evaluate the implementation of Volleyball
Develpoment
Nairobi,
Kenya, October 24, 2007-: CAVB Board will meet on
Thursday here at Red court hall in Nairobi, Kenya prior
to the CAVB ordinary Congress to he held in the same
hall 26 and 27 October 2007. The board will evaluate the
implementation of the decisions taken by the board in
the last two years since the last congress in Sharm El
Sheikh, Egypt 2005.
The meeting presided by CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani
will study the African competitions with the new system
of making zonal qualifications which allowed more
participation of National teams reaching to a record of
30 teams out of 53 affiliated National Federations.
These zonal competitions were considered as
qualifications to 2007 All Africa games. The board also
will study the implementation of the CAVB Beach
Volleyball Programme after the Headquarters organized
the first beach volleyball clinic in February 2007 in
Cairo with the participation of more than 60
participants.

South Africa and
Algeria organize the Men’s and Women’s Olympic
qualifications
Cairo,
Egypt, August 25, 2007- the CAVB Board of Administration
presided by Dr. Amr Elwani decided on Saturday to grant
South Africa the honor to host the 2008 Men’s Olympic
Qualifications, while the Women’s qualifications will be
held in Algeria. The board also defined the 2008 CAVB
competitions’ organizers.
The Board also approved fruitful decisions including
giving the chance to new organizers every year to
increase the number of countries organizing the
continental competitions after CAVB had many new
organizers during the last few years; Benin in 2005,
Seychelles in 2006 and Niger in 2007.
CAVB first vice president proposed the dates 1-10
February 2008 to host the men’s Olympic qualifications
in South Africa, while Algeria will define the dates of
hosting the women’s qualifications later.
The
board voted for the organizers of the Olympic
Qualifications as 5 countries applied to host which are
Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, South Africa and Rwanda. Before
voting Egypt withdrew their candidature leaving 4
countries to compete for the organization through
voting. South Africa gained 6 votes, Nigeria 5, Tunisia
2 and one incorrect vote.
For the Women’s qualifications, Algeria and Kenya were
the only candidates for the organization as Algeria
gained 9 votes against 5 for Kenya.
Sixteen teams were admitted to compete for the African
spot in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in Men’s category
which are Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya,
Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Seychelles, Rwanda,
Mozambique, Guinea Conakry, Liberia and Uganda

Proposals to exchange
referees with Europe and formation of African Women
collective team
Cairo,
Egypt, August 23, 2007-: CAVB Executive committee
started their meeting on Thursday 23 August in Cairo,
Egypt led by CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani with many
fruitful proposals which will be put in front of the
board members when they start their meeting on Friday.
Dr. Elwani presented the most prominent proposal during
the meeting where he featured the importance of exchange
the referees between Africa and Europe during the
continental competition which will have double benefit
for both sides. He showed the importance of having world
class referees in African competitions as neutral
referees while as Europe use the African referees in the
European competitions according to a protocol between
the African (CAVB) and European (CEV) confederations.
The Executive had also proposal regarding the
implementation of the African beach Volleyball circuits
at the club level as was decided during the last board
meeting. The Executive Committee also expressed the
importance of continuing the zonal competitions which
started successfully in 2007 and considered as a
qualification to All Africa Games. The zonal
competitions will be held annually as a qualification to
all the continental competitions as a system to increase
the National teams involved in the international
competitions.

Fruitful decisions for

Board
Cairo,
Egypt, September 15-: The Confederation of African
Volleyball (CAVB) Board of Administration meeting in
Cairo took many fruitful decisions for the better future
of continental volleyball. The meeting headed by CAVB
President Dr. Amr Elwani discussed important subjects in
management, technical and financial aspects.

Sharm El Sheikh- Egypt 1, 2 October
Elwani Re-elected Unopposed CAVB President with the
whole Executive members
Sharm
El Sheikh, Egypt October 2-: Dr. Amr Elwani was
re-elected unopposed as CAVB President for a second
mandate in CAVB Congress meeting at Sharm El Sheikh
Congress hall in Egypt on Sunday. Six members were
elected unopposed also for the executive committee;
Tubby Reddy (South Africa), Bechir Louzir (Tunisia),
Majore Timba (Cameroon), Abdolaye Baba Sy (Senegal),
Habu Gumel (Nigeria) and Tom Omongole (Uganda) as well
as two members for women gender Touria Aarab (Morocco)
and Aminata Fofana (Cote d'Ivoire) and also the two FIVB
Board members Abdel Hadi Ghazali (Morocco) and Antonio
Antao (Mozambique).
The Congress supported in its closure Ceremony FIVB
President Dr. Ruben Acosta to remain for a new mandate
in his position to gain his continuous support to the
continent after his great work in his position.
The
executive Committee elected Mr. Tubby Reddy for the
second mandate as the first vice president.
The zone presidents were also elected; Okba Gougam
(Algeria) for zone 1, Mory Keita (Guinea) for zone 2,
Issiaka Sawadogo (Burkina Faso) for zone 3, El Hadj
Kalala (RD Congo) for zone 4, Cap. Imad Dokony (Sudan)
for zone 5, Mosweu (Botswana) for zone 6 and Kayseeven
Teeroovengadum (Mauritius) for zone 7.
CAVB Referee Commission President, Mr. Hassan Ahmed
presented the great improvement of the referees in the
continent and stated that we want to increase the
interest of the National Federations to take care of the
referees through the proper organization of courses
wither under FIVB or CAVB supervision.
CAVB Medical commission President, Dr. Hosam Bahgat
suggested having a doctor as a control committee member
in all African competitions like in the FIVB
competitions. The congress approved to have a doctor
from the organizing country to be appointed in each CAVB
competition.
Technical and coaching commission President Mr. Baba Sy
presented the importance of the courses organized in the
African countries in the last three years which helped
to increase the qualified personnel for our sport.
CAVB Treasure, Mr. Habu Gomel insisted that the Zonal
activities should increase in order to use the donation
of 10.000 CHF from the FIVB. The congress took a
decision that the CAVB has the right to change the
president of the zone which is not active during the two
years period.
Beach volleyball commission president Mr. Abderazak
Allam mentioned the increased activity of Beach
Volleyball in the continent after South Africa organized
the one of the Swatch FIVB World Tours and Morocco
organized a successful Satellite Championship in
Casablanca. He suggested the new system of points in the
African competition to allow the African players to have
FIVB ranking in the international competitions. |

Approval of the new code
of Conduct, Constitutions and Regulations
Sharm
El Sheikh, Egypt October 1-: 2005 CAVB Congress
started its operations at Sharm El Sheikh Congress hall
in Egypt on Saturday in presence of a quorum of
countries. Many big guests and officials attended the
opening ceremony led by the South Sinai Governor General
Mostafa Afifi, International Olympic Committee member
and Egyptian Olympic Committee member General Monir
Thabet, FIVB Vice president and the World governing body
representative Dr. Saleh Ben Nasser and CAVB Present Dr.
Amr Elwani.
During the opening ceremony General Mostafa Afifi
welcomed the African delegates in the City of beauty and
peace, Sharm El Sheikh in his speech and appreciated the
work done by CAVB to develop volleyball in the
continent. The Egyptian Olympic committee president,
General Munir Thabet thanked Dr. Elwani and the CAVB
Board of Administration for their successful efforts and
congratulate Egypt for their big victory in the African
Nations Championship and their qualification to the
Grand Champions Cup in Japan.
Twenty
four African countries attended the congress as they
approved the activity report presented by Dr. Amr Elwani
and the financial report made by CAVB vice president and
treasurer. Elwani stressed on the great progress of
African volleyball in the last four years due to the
great financial and technical support of FIVB and its
president Dr. Ruben Acosta, especially in terms of
courses through SAP Programme and the donation of many
Synthetic floors (Gerfloor) to African countries. CAVB
Executive Director Mr. Charles Panou mentioned that the
hard and active work of the national federations is the
main cause to get the donation of Floors from the FIVB.
The Congress also approved the new code of conduct which
is quietly similar to that of FIVB and also approved the
new constitutions and general and sports regulations
proposed by the Board of Administration. CAVB President
insisted to enhance the strict application of the
sanctions upon the teams withdrawing from the
competitions in the last minute to make them respect the
CAVB regulations.

El Sheikh, Egypt September 30-: CAVB congress
will be held at Sharm El Sheikh Congress hall in Egypt 1
and 2 October 2005. Elections for all CAVB position will
be done after the opening ceremony. The Congress will be
attended by the South Sinai Governor General Mostafa
Afifi, International Olympic Committee member and
Egyptian Olympic Committee member General Monir Thabet,
FIVB Vice president and the World governing body
representative Dr. Saleh Ben Nasser and CAVB Present Dr.
Amr Elwani.
After the presentation of CAVB activity and financial
reports, the congress will discuss many important points
including some projects like the Volleyball World Vision
2012 which coincide with the projects of the World
governing body FIVB, Continental development plan and
Africa Volleyball project (Volleyball at School)
presented by CAVB Executive director, Mr. Charles Panou.
The results of the African Volleyball Gala Championship
supported by FIVB will be discussed after the successful
two competitions in Morocco for Men and Nigeria for
Women in 2005 and also the new project of FIVB to help
the sport in the continent, Volleyball Cooperation
progrmme which replaced the older SAP Programme. The
reports of Women Volleyball, Park volley, Height limit
Volleyball and Zonal competitions will be presented.
The Congress will present the proposals of the Board of
Administration to be approved regarding the modified
Code of Conduct, Constitution and the General
Regulations. Finally the Commission Reports and
Proposals and the zonal Projects will be discussed.
"We hope to present the African unity in this congress
before the FIVB Congress next year to support all our
president of FIVB Dr. Ruben Acosta" Said CAVB President
Dr. Amr Elwani. "We want also to be one hand to support
the sport in our continent for more progress towards the

Acosta as FIVB President for a new mandate to
continue his great projects for the world volleyball
which produced a lot during his presidency of the World

that Dr. Acosta's Candidature was well appreciated by
all the delegations even through the National
Federations which didn't attend as they send their
confirmations of Dr. Acosta support to continue his
respected efforts with the World Volleyball. |

AFRICA HONORS ACOSTA
In the name of African Volleyball Confederation and all
National Federation, CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani
remitted a decoration (Necklace) to FIVB President Dr.
Ruben Acosta during the 29th FIVB World Congress in
Porto, Portugal to congratulate him for the great
achievements he did to the sport and particularly his
permanent support to Africa and in honor of his twenty
years at the helm of the world wide volleyball
federation .

CAVB BOARD OF ADMINSTRATION MEETING:
CAVB SUPPORTED FIVB CODE OF CONDUCT
CAVB ordinary congress and board of adminstration
meetings in Cairo, December 2003 expressed their public solidarity
with the International Volleyball Federation, its constitution, code
of conduct and regulations that govern us and facilitate our sports
relations, and with the FIVB president, General Manager and board of
adminstration members for their handling of recent cases of disloyalty
of several FIVB members. They decided to condemn firmly the defamatory
campaign that the Argentinean Mario Goijman and his spokespersons have
unleashed against the FIVB, its President and General Manager and to
reject the grotesque accusations that have been published. They also
decided to repudiate the conspiracy against the FIVB by Mr. Luis
Moreno and Mr. Mario Goijman who have been contacting the IOC members
in attempt to rally them to their disloyal cause. They also expressed
their solidarity with the FIVB board of adminstration’s decision to
suspend the Argentinean Volleyball Federation and initiate the
procedure of expulsion. |
