serving skills and stole one set from Poland, who won
their last Intercontinental Round match 3:1 (25:20 25:23
23:25 25:23). Piotr Gruszka with a total of 21 scored
points was chosen as the MVP of the match. Poland
finished their matches at the top of the pool with a
record of 9-3 and qualified to the finals of the World
League in Brazil, while Egypt finished theri matches
with a record of 3-9. . |

Algeria to represent
Africa in Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournaments
Lausanne,
February 19, 2008 - The Vice-Champion of the African
Olympic Qualification, the Algerian Men’s team, has
confirmed its participation in any of the three Men’s
World Olympic Qualification Tournaments in late May. The
Algerian Women’s team has already qualified for the
Olympics for the first time after winning their African
Qualification Tournament in January. The Men’s team
finished runners-up to Egypt in their African qualifier
in early February and have now been given the
opportunity to earn a berth in Beijing. |

Norway Angola’s Morais Abreu and Emanuel Fernandes set goals
that appeared to be both easy and hard.
The first goal was to improve the awareness of Beach Volleyball
in their country by working with “young and old” alike to
educate their fellow compatriots about the sport. The second
goal was to play in the Beijing 2008 Olympics by competing for
an African spot in the Summer Games by participating on the
SWATCH FIVB World Tour. |

Algerian women in
steady steps before the Olympics
Algeria waited more than 4 decades to emerge at the
international level in the Women’s volleyball when they
qualified to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games for the
first time in their history. Since Algeria Volleyball
federation was established in 1964 the Women’s Algerian
volleyball was at the shadow of Men’s volleyball as the
Men's category emerged at the African level since the
start of the African Nations Championship in 1967 when
they won the silver medal of the newly born competition
only three years after the federation was registered to
FIVB.

Four KCB players move to prisons team
Nairobi,
Kenya, June 24, 2008- Africa women’s volleyball
champions Kenya Prisons have poached four players from
rival club Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
The players, who ditched the bankers are Salome Wanjala,
Florence Bosire, Loice Tarus and Esther Mwombe.
Prisons coach, David Lung’aho, said: 'Prisons in their
efforts to create a formidable team have acquired four
players from KCB.'
'We have some of the best players in the continent, but
recruitment must be a continuous process for the team to
grow stronger and stronger,' he said.
But KCB coach Paul Bitok said they were not bitter about
the departure of the players. |
2008 Men’s Junior
African Nations Championship in Tunisia August 2008
Cairo, Egypt, June 27, 2008- The African
Volleyball Confederation CAVB entrusted Tunisia
Volleyball Federation to organize the 13th Men’s Junior
African Nations Championship 23- 30 August 2008 in
Tunis, Tunisia. This competition will qualify to the
FIVB World Championship of this age category in 2009.
