Al Ahly of Egypt, the queens of Africa
Nairobi,
Kenya, April 5, 2009- Al Ahly Volleyball Women team of
Egypt Becomes the queens of Africa for the sixth time in
their history after their thriller victory over Kenya
Commercial Bank in the final match the 2009 Women’s
African clubs Championship in front of 3000 home
spectators here at Moi International Sports Complex of
Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday. Bejaia of Algeria
wins the bronze medal following their victories over
Injis of Cameroon in the third place match.
Bafia of Cameroon secured the fifth position after
beating APR of Rwanda, followed by Water Sports of
Ethiopia who finished seventh after beating Kutlwano of
Botswana.
The final was the most exciting match in the
competition showing all volleyball skills as Al Ahly
took the revenge from the team that defeated them in the
2006 final in Mauritius. |

KC Bank of Kenya and Al Ahly of Egypt to the final
Nairobi,
Kenya, April 4, 2009- KC Bank of Kenya and Al Ahly of
Egypt qualified to the final of the 2009 Women’s African
clubs Championship following their victories over Bejaia
of Algeria and Injis of Cameroon in the semifinal held
here at Moi International Sports Complex of Kasarani in
Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday. KCB meets Al Ahly in a
classic Kenyan- Egyptian final of the competition final
on Sunday while Bejaia plays Injis for the bronze medal.
The final day will feature also five other matches for
the final ranking of the competition: APR (Rwanda) vs.
Bafia (Cameroon) for 5 and 6 positions, Kutlwano
(Botswana) vs. Water Sports (Ethiopia) for the 7 and 8
positions, Prisons (Kenya) vs. Jadida (Morocco) for the
9 and 10, Canon (RD Congo) vs. Federal prisons for the
11 and 12, VC Club (RD Congo) vs. Les AS (Burundi) for
the 13 and 14. The last two positions are already
determined after the withdrawal pof Pipelines of Kenya
and thus Kampala VC of Uganda secured the 15th position.

Quarterfinal
KC Bank, Bejaia, Ahly and Injis to Semifinal spot
Nairobi,
Kenya, April 3, 2009- KC Bank of Kenya, Bejaia of
Algeria, Al Ahly of Egypt and Injis of Cameroon secured
the semifinal tickets of the 2009 Women’s African clubs
Championship following their victories over Kutlwano of
Botswana APR of Rwanda Water Sports of Ethiopia and
Bafia of Cameroon in the quarterfinal of the competition
held here at Moi International Sports Complex of
Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday. Bejaia meets KCB,
while Al Ahly plays Injis in the semifinal of the
competition on Saturday.
The matches of the quarterfinal of 9-16 positions
showed the withdrawal of Kenya Pipelines team, while as
Canon Ndjili of RD Congo defeated their neighbors CV
Club, Jadida beat Les AS of Burundi and Prisons downed
Kampala of Uganda.
Early this day the control Committee of the 2009
Women’s African Club Championship decided to exclude
three players from Kenya Pipelines team: Janet Wanja,
Asha Makuto and Lucy Chige and two players from Prisons
of Kenya: Esther Mwombe and Jane Wacu from the
competition and the results of the matches where these
players participated in during the preliminary round of
the competition will be reversed and the mentioned teams
loses the matches 3-0.
As both teams end the first round at the top of their
pools with three victories in a row, Pipeline loses the
three matches to finish at the fourth position of the
pool A to play for 9 to 16 positions, while Prisons that
finished also at the top of Pool B will loses two
matches of the three they won because they didn’t field
the players in question in the third match to come also
in the fourth position and play for the 9-16 positions.
Pipeline declared their withdrawal from the competition
and they didn’t show up during their expected match
against Federal Prisons of Ethiopia.

Disqualification
of Pipelines and Prisons Alleged Players

Committee of the 2009 Women’s African Club Championship
decided late on Thursday to exclude three players from
Kenya Pipelines team Janet Wanja, Asha Makuto and Lucy
Chige and two players from Prisons of Kenya Esther
Mwombe and Jane Wacu from the competition and the
results of the matches where these players participated
in during the preliminary round of the competition will
be reversed and the mensioned teams looses the match

Day 3
Three Kenyan teams and 2 from Cameroon qualified to the
quarterfinal
Nairobi, Kenya, April 1, 2009- The three Kenyan teams
the organizers Pipelines, the defending champions
Prisons and KC Bank as well as 2 Cameroon teams Bafia
and Injis with Bejaia of Algeria, Al Ahly of Egypt and
APR of Rwanda secured the 8 quarterfinal slots of the
2009 Women’s African clubs Championship following their
victories in the the third and final day of the
preliminary round here at Moi International Sports
Complex of Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday. The
other 8 teams Water Sports and Prisons of Ethiopia,
Canon Ndjili, VC Club of RD Congo, Kutlwano of Botswana,
Kampala of Uganda, Jadida of Morocco and Les AS of
Burundi will play for the 9 to 16 positions.
The final day of the preliminary round showed the third
victory for Pipelines, Prisons, KCB of Kenya and Al Ahly
of Egypt to lead the four pools, while the other four
teams Injis and Bafia of Cameroon, Bejaia of Algeria and
APR of Rwanda set the second victory that qualified them
to the quarterfinal.
The quarterfinal matches will be held on Friday which
feature 4 matches for 1-8 positions and other 4 for the
9-16 positions |
Day 2
The big favorites achieve second victory
Nairobi,
Kenya, March 31, 2009- the big favorites Pipelines,
Kenya Prisons and KC Bank of Kenya and Al Ahly of Egypt
achieved their second victory in a row to secure a
semifinal slot after the second day of the 2009 Women’s
African clubs Championship here at Moi International
Sports Complex of Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday.
The second day showed also the first victory for Kampala
VC of Uganda, Water Sports of Ethiopia and Kutlwano of
Botswana.
The problem of the frequent electricity interruption was
repeated many times in the indoor hall forcing the
referees to stop the matches many times.
In an unrecorded occasion Al Ahly of Egypt accepted to
play two matches in the same day as they played Canon
Ndjili in the morning in their postponed match from the
first day and then played the second against APR of
Rwanda near midnight.
The second match of Pool D between Federal prisons of
Ethiopia and Canon Ndjili of Cameroon was postponed to
the rest day on Thursday.

Day 1
Kenya and Cameroon teams achieved 100% victory
Nairobi, Kenya, March 30, 2009- In an opening day full of problems all
the favorite teams KC Bank, Prisons, and Pipelines of
Kenya as well as Bafia and Injis of Cameroon and Naceria
Bejaia of Algeria achieved their first victory in the
2009 Women’s African clubs Championship here at Moi
International Sports Complex of Kasarani in Nairobi,
Kenya on Monday. The frequent electricity interruption
happening to the hall disturbed the schedule in the
competition’s first day as the first two matches had to
stop more than three times due to hall lightening
problem making a delay of about three hours to start the
matches. The promising APR team of Rwanda was the
biggest fighters as they spend more than two hours in a
five set match to defeat the surprising Federal Prisons
of Ethiopia.
The last match of the day between Al Ahly of Egypt and
Canon Ndjili of RD Congo was postponed due to the late
end of the former matches till the midnight.
The matches were attended by CAVB Control Committee
President Tom Omongole, SOC Delegate Mrs. Touria Aarab,
Referee Delegate Salamba, CC member Jacob Owiti, CAVB
technical director Howyda Mondy and most of the Kenyan
volleyball federation board led by the president

Drawing of lots
16 teams compete for the African queens’ title
Nairobi, Kenya, March 29, 2009- With a historic record of participating
team the 2009 Women’s African club championship will be
opened at Moi International Sports Center at Kasarani in
Nairobi, Kenya on Monday with the defending champions
Prisons of Kenya playing Water Sports of Ethiopia in the
opening day. The 2008 Bronze medalists KC Bank of Kenya
will start their program against Kampala VC of Uganda.
The usual big favorite Al Ahly of Egypt plays Canon
Ndijili of RD Congo while the team having the record of
cups Pipelines meets Water Sports of Ethiopia. The
competition that feature 16 participating teams divided
into 4 pools will show 8 matches in the opening day.
The drawing of lots done in Nairobi on Sunday put the
three Kenyan teams the organizers Pipeline, the
defending champions Prisons and the KC Bank with the Al
Ahly of Egypt who has five titles under their built as
heads of the four preliminary pools. Pool A comprises
Pipeline (KEN), VC (RD Congo), Naceria of Bejaia (ALG)
and Water Sports (ETH). Pool B Prisons (KEN), Kutwano
(BOT), Bafia (CMR) and Les As (BUR). In pool C; KC Bank
(KEN), Injs (CMR), Kampala VC (UGA) and Olympic of
Jadida (MOR) and in Pool D Al Ahly (EGY), APR (RWA),
Canon Ndijili (RD Congo) and Federal prisons (ETH).
