the competition showing all volleyball
skills as Al Ahly took the revenge from the
team that defeated them in the 2006 final in
Mauritius.
Final
KC Bank (Kenya) vs. Al Ahly
(Egypt)
Al Ahly used the strong impermeable block
and backline defense to cruise past the
fighting Kenya Commercial bank team 3-1
(25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22) in 95 minutes
of exciting performance from both teams.
Except for the third set that was won
comfortably by the Kenyans all the other
sets were settled in the final few points as
Al Ahly with the experienced players like
Mona Adly and Sherihan Abdel Kader who was
chosen the competition Most Valuable Player
(MVP) came usually from behind to win the
three other sets.
The match showed very aggressive start from
both teams but KC Bank stayed ahead in most
of the set due to their active centers
specially Jackline Barasa and the veteran
Margret Tsinyeni who helped their team to
stay ahead till Ahly drew 20-20 after a
group of efficient spikes from the two
sisters Sherihan and Nahla Abdel Kader. Al
Ahly played their best in the last part of
the set to win 25-22 after a marvelous
backline defensive performance.
Al Ahly kept the rhythm in the second set
as they deployed the block of Hagar Badr and
Mona Adly with the aid of their dominance in
reception and digging so they led 8-2 at the
first technical timeout (FTT). KCB rebounded
through their efficient spikers Jackline and
Grace Jeptoo till they draw 12-12. Although
the Kenyan team looked better in defense and
attacks it looks clearly that Ahly players
with their high spirit are more motivated to
win specially after the coach changed the
main setter Miral by the second setter Iman
Tharwat. Al Ahly rebounded by their better
backline defense to win the set 25-22.
The third set showed early disturbance in
the Kenyan team as they lost the confidence
and thus Al Ahly led 5-3 through the
efficient blocks of Ingy El Shamy but
quickly KCB went through to lead for the
first time 8-6 at the FTT after great
performance from the experienced Margret.
The Kenyan team increased the point deficit
to 13-7 before Ahly coach made some
substitutions that allowed them to draw
14-14. KCB again used the wing spikers Eunce
Maiyo and Julia Sakaya to regain the lead
till 20-18 and 23-19. Ahly players committed
several Service and reception mistakes that
allowed the Kenyan team to win the set
25-20.
Al Ahly started the fourth set in a better
disciplined line up that allowed them to
continuously lead 7-5 when the Kenyan team
survived through Margret in position 3 to
score three successive points and lead 8-7
at the FTT. Al Ahly improved their block
against the Kenyan attacks and started to
use the wing spikers Nada Nasef and Sherihan
Sameh to score, But KCB reacted through the
centers Jackline and Margret to draw 14-14
before Ahly reached to 16-14 at the STT. The
Kenyan coach was forced to call timeout ut
Ahly players reached to the utmost
performance to win the set 25-22 and the
match 3-1.
“I’m very happy to win this title here in
Kenya the best country in the African women
volleyball,” Said Ahly coach Raouf Abdel
kader cheerfully. “I think all my players
were stars in the final and I use this
opportunity to thank the board of
administration of the club for there
assistance and help through a preparation
program in Europe.” He added.

Injis of Cameroon in a thriller face of 3-1
(21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21) in 80 minutes
showing high performance for both teams.
Injis started the match in a better
performance specially the setter Theodora
Nack who led the team combinations which was
used well by the efficient spiker Fezeli
Nekoudjou and Roline Tatchou to win the
first set. Bejaia regained their well known
rhythm to win two successive sets after
their big gun Nawal Mansouri sent her
unstoppable hits aided by the good
performance of the middle blockers Lilia
Boulouiza and Aicha Neznate. Injis returned
back in the fourth set and had early lead as
they deployed their solid block of Esther
Mbala and Michelle Ntete but the Algerian

gradually till they won the set 25-21 after
