and they didn’t show up during their expected match

Quarterfinal 1-8
Bejaia (Algeria) vs. APR (Rwanda)
Bejaia of Algeria played with the fighting spirit
specially in defense to clinch a straight sets victory
over APR of Rwanda 25-23, 26-24, 25-21. Although APR
team played a good match defensively and offensively and
they were near to win each of the three sets, they
committed silly mistakes at the end of each set to lose
the critical points. Algeria’s middle blockers Lilia
Boulouiza played a great match and finished the match as
her team best scorer with 13 points aided by the wing
spiker Nawal Mansouri who settled the most important
points in the three sets. The APR star of Kenyan origin
Dorcas Ndasaba playered a good match and she finished as
the match best scorer with 18 points.
Bejaia qualified to the semifinal to meet KC Bank of
Kenya, while APR will play Kutlwano of Botswana for the
for the 5-8 play off.
Algeria head coach Aimad Saidani studied his opponent
well specially their big gun Dorcas and succeeded to
adjust his defense well against their attacks. “we made
good scouting for APR and we succeeded to use their
weakness to penetrate through,” Aimad said. “I know well
that my player were tired of the three matches in the
first round specially we were the only team to play two
tie breaks in two successive days.”
Al Ahly (Egypt) vs. Water Sports (Ethiopia)
Al Ahly of Egypt used the experience of their
setter Miral Rouf and the strong wing spikers Sheihan
Sameh from position 4 and Nada Nasef from position 2 to
go through to the semifinal after beating Water Sports
of Ethiopia 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-16). Ahly blockers
Hagar Badr and Mona Aly reached their peak performance
ein the first set as they stopped the attacks of water
Sports through their spikers Loha Pinknesh and Tamrat
Kidisi. Ahly led the first set wie=dely to win
comfortably 25-12 but Water Sports team struggled in the
second set to stay near most of the set toll the players
committed many reception and defense mistakes to lose
the set 25-17. Al Ahly returned back to their superior
performance to finalize the third set as fast as the
first set 25-16.
“Our strategy depended today on using three attackers
by the net in the turn where the Water Sports’ setter
plays in the front line and we succeeded to do this.”
Said Al Ahly head coach Raouf Abdel kader after the
match. “I also want to thank my blockers spaecially Mona
Aly who did well and applied our strategy in blocking
and I considered her as the match star.”
Water Sports coach said that his team played less than
the first round and he referred this to the effort done
during the three matches of the preliminary round and
the strong team they faced Al Ahly which is better than
the teams they faced in the first round.
Bafia (Cameroon) vs. Injis (Cameroon)
In a purely Cameroon face of Injis clinched an
important victory over their compatriot 3-1 (27-25,
25-20, 15-25, 25-16) in what is said the local derby of
Cameroon. The thriller encounter showed all volleyball
skills but the winners were more concentrating as they
extract all their power to win the critical match. The
efficient spiker Nouistte Mendouga played a great role
in the victory and was chosen by her coach as the Most
Valuable player. She was helped by the strong attacker
Fezeli Nekoudjou and Roline Tatchou.
“My strategy for the match today was to use the fast
attacks through the centers which is the weakest point
in our opponent. We also used the wing spikers in
sometimes where they arranged their defense in the
middle of the net.” Said Injis head coach Josep Nane.
Injis qualified to the semifinal to meet Ahly, while
Bafia plays for 5-8 positions against Water sports
KCB (Kenya) vs. Kutlwano (Botswana)
The only Kenyan team in the quarterfinal KC Bank of
Kenya pulled off a respectable victory over Kutlwano of
Botswana 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-20). The Kenyan team used
their well known fast attacks through the efficient
center Jackline Baraza and the experienced Margret
Tsinyeni. They overwhelmed the first set till the
Botswana team improved in the second set as they
improved their defense and block against the Kenyan
attacks to come near specially in the third set.
The Kenyan head coach Japheth Minala was embarrassed
with the opponent performance as he was expecting to
meat Bafia of Cameroon. “We played well today but we
were surprised by the performance of the Botswana team,”
said Japheth. “Now we are looking forwards to qualify to
the final through Bejaia of Algeria.” He added.
KCB qualified to the semis to meet Bejaia of Algeria
while Kutlwano plays APR of Rwanda for the 5-8

for 9-12 positions, while VC plays for 13-16 positions.
Olympic Jadida of Morocco found it easy to defeat Les
AS of Burundi 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-17) in a one side
game showing great improvement in the winners’ side.
Jadida players controlled the match through their better
reception and digging from all the positions and they
used the good reception to build up the attacks through
the wing spikes Siham Atoul and Ikram Ettay and also
trough the center Meryem Habity.
Jadida plays for the 9-12 positions against Federal
Prisons of Ethiopia while Les AS play for the 13 to 16
positions.
Prisons of Kenya without the two disqualified players
clinched a straight sets victory over Kampala VC of
Uganda 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-8)
The winners were depressed to play for the 9-16
