Mauritius sets the third consecutive victory to win Africa Pool B tournament


Maputo, Mozambique, May 3, 2009- The well-organized Mauritius Men’s volleyball team continued their winning streak and cruised past Malawi in the third and final day of the African Pool B tournament in the 2010 Men’s World Championship held here at Maxaquene Maputo hall in Mozambique capital. Mauritius wins the four nations tour to qualify to the third round playing in the African Pool E next August. The tournament’s final day showed also the second victory for Zimbabwe over the host team Mozambique but both teams secured third round slots being second and third of this tournament.
Mauritius crashes Mozambique and Zimbabwe secures first victory
Maputo, Mozambique, May 2, 2009- The emerging Mauritius team swept the host team Mozambique in the second day of the Africa Pool B tournament of the 2010 Men’s World Championship to lead the 4 nations pool held here at Maxaquene Maputo hall in Mozambique capital. Zimbabwe achieved their first victory over Malawi to compete for the three slots of the pool qualifying to the third round.
Mozambique and Mauritius claim first victory
Maputo, Mozambique, April 1- the organizers Mozambique and the emerging Mauritius Men’s volleyball teams started the way successfully in the Pool B African qualification tournament of the 2010 World championships after both teams achieved their first victory over Malawi and Zimbabwe respectively here at Maxaquene Maputo Hall in the capital of Mozambique on Friday.

The host team supported by the home spectators overcame the sluggish start as they came from one set behind to clinch 3-1 (23-25, 25-10, 25-10, 25-16) over the new comers Malawi in 94 minutes. After they lost the first set, Mozambique improved their reception and backline defense to control the match and they went through to win three successive sets and lead the round robin pool by point ratio ahead of Mauritius.
4 teams complete for the third round slots
Maputo, Mozambique, April 30, 2009- Maxaquene Maputo Hall in the capital of Mozambique will be the scene for the first event of the 2010 Volleyball World Championship to be held in the African continent when 4 National teams; the host Mozambique, Mauritius, Malawi and Zimbabwe compete for the third round slots to be held next August.

The round robin tournament features two strong matches in the opening day when Mauritius meets Zimbabwe followed by a popular match between the host Mozambique and Malawi on Friday May 1.

The top three teams of this tournament will qualify to the third round where the first and second play in the African Pool E while the third qualifies to the Pool D.

Mozambique team prepared well for the tournament as they had a long term preparation program through internal camps followed by some friendly matches. Mozambique participated regularly in the African competitions in the last few years wither at the club or National team level as they participate in the 2007 African Nations Championship in South Africa as well as the club competitions in 2007 and 2008.
FIVB 2010 Volleyball World Championships: Drawing of lots completed in Turin

Turin, Italy, September 28, 2008 – The drawing of lots for the 2010 FIVB Men’s and Women’s World Championships’ preliminary rounds took place in Turin, Italy, on Monday.

The teams which will participate in the first-, second- and third-round preliminary tournaments have now been allocated their groups for what is set to be the most successful World Championships in FIVB history, with a record 214 national teams registered to take part.

Mr. Theofanis Tsiokris, FIVB Second Executive Vice President, introduced the event that begins the long road to the final matches in Rome and Tokyo. “Today I am pleased to say that the eyes of the world rest on Turin as Volleyball fans from all four corners of the globe await the drawing of lots that will signal the start of the most successful World Championships in history,” said Tsiokris.
 Italy gets ready to host Drawing of Lots: Record 214 national teams await outcome

Lausanne, September 26, 2008 – The Drawing of Lots for the 2010 FIVB Men’s and Women’s World Championships’ preliminary rounds will take place in Turin, Italy, on Monday, September 29 at 4 p.m. local time.

The first-, second- and third-round preliminary tournaments for what is set to be the most successful World Championships in FIVB history with a record 214 national teams registered to take part will run from December 2008 to August 2009.

The women’s first-round tournaments in Europe, NORCECA and Asia are scheduled to be played during the first two weeks of December and the month of January, with the men’s first round in these three continents scheduled for the same period.
