Day 3

Algeria wins the tournament, Morocco and Nigeria qualified to the third round


Alger, Algeria, May 28, 2009- Algeria Men’s volleyball team wins the 2010 Men’s World Championship second round Africa Pool A tournament following their second victory over Nigeria in the third and final day of the competition held here at Naceria Hall in Chlef, Algeria on Thursday.

All three nations appearing at the round-robin competition have already qualified for the third round Africa C and D pools that will be organized in Egypt and Tunisia respectively next August following the withdrawal of Congo before the onset of the tournament. Algeria qualified to the third round Africa Pool D along with Tunisia, Kenya and Zimbabwe, while Morocco and Nigeria qualified to Pool C with Egypt and Botswana.

In front of their excited spectators the host team Algeria took over Nigeria 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 28-26) in 80 minutes. After Algeria wins easily the first and second sets due to the efficient performance of the trio Hichem Guemmadi , Mohamed Cheikh and Riad Amrane, Nigeria emerged and was about to win the third set. The Algerian players took the matter seriously to win the set narrowly 28-26 and the match in straight sets.

The victory improved the Algerian win- loss ratio to 2-0 to lead the three nation tournament with 4 points ahead of morocco who came second with 1-1 record. Nigeria came at the bottom of the pool with 0-2 record.

The Algerian coach Bencharif Faycal was happy with the increased confidence of his players although they don’t have enough preparation. “I think we will perform better in the third round when my players have better preparation and the injured players return back.” Said the coach cheerfully after the match.

usman Abdellah (COACH Nigeria) aujourd'hui on un fourni une bonne prestation au fur est a mesure on améliore notre rendement Emmanuel Friday (capitaine Ingéra) avec effectif réduit(8) et jeune on a tenter de donné une certaine résistance a la formation algérienne qui possède des joueurs très expérimente a l'image de Hichem Guemmadi , Mohamed Cheikh ,Riad Amrane.. ce qui a fait la différence a la fin de chaque sets Lyes Ould ammar (JOUEUR Algerie) après près de quatre (4) d"absence en sélection ,je remercie le staff technique de la confiance place en moi concerne le match d"aujourd'hui on essayer de faire de notre mieux pour satisfaire ce merveille public de Chlef un fin connaisseur du volley-ball,notre adversaire le Nigeria a alterne dans son jeu ce qui nous peu gène un certain moment Faycal Bencharif (Coach Algérien) a partir du second set mes joueurs ont montré un manque de concentration ce qui a permis a notre adversaire de prendre confiance , sincèrement avec une petite préparation on a réussi a monté une équipe , malgré les blessures de beaucoup titulaires laissons nous savouré un peu cette qualification puis on discutera du prochain rendez-vous avec les responsables de notre fédération

The host Algeria cruises past Morocco in a thriller encounter


Alger, Algeria, May 27, 2009- Algeria Men’s volleyball team fights for around two hours to clinch a crucial victory over Morocco in the second day of the 2010 Men’s World Championship second round Africa Pool A tournament held here at Naceria Hall in Chlef, Algeria on Wednesday. Algeria becomes the greatest favorite to win the three- Nations Championship before their second and last competition Match on Thursday against the winless Nigeria.

All three nations appearing at the round-robin competition have already qualified for the third round Africa C and D pools that will be organized in Egypt and Tunisia respectively next August following the withdrawal of Congo earlier in the week.

In a thriller encounter that made the 1500 home spectators on their toes till the end of the match Algeria pulled off a difficult victory over Morocco 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 25-19) in a classic North African match lasting 114 minutes.

The Algerian wing spiker Aly Kerboua played a great role in the victory not only with his unstoppable hits, but also with his good reception and digging from the backline. He was aided also by the team’s captain Khalid Satour.

The victory put Morocco at the top of the pool from a win- loss ratio of 1-1 with three points ahead of Algeria who had 1-0 record to be the greatest favorite before their second and last match against Nigeria on Thursday. If Algeria wins the match they will be the champions of the competition.

The Algerian coach Bencharif Faycal was very happy to win the strong match but he said that the Moroccan team was a very tough opponent in the match and they can achieve more if they are more prepared. He also mentioned that his attacker Aly Kerboua was the match star.

Algerie-Maroc 3 sets a 1dans une salle archicomble 1500 spectateurs et en presence de Amer Alwani president de la CAVB (confederation africaine de volley ball pour son premier match l'Algerie a dispose sur le score de 3 sets a 1 (25/18;17/25;25/20et 25/19) en 1h45 mn de jeu d une bonne equipe marocainecette empoignade a etait dirige par les arbitres Toufik Boudaya (Tunisie) et Soulimany Mohamed (Nigeria)

Abdellaoui Maan Mohamed ( coach maroc) le match a etait d un bon niveau technique dommage que l arbitrage a devier en sifflant une faute de rotation qui n est pas evidente au milieu du 4e set ce qui a chambouler notre rendement a un moment propice,l Algerie est une bonne equipe je la felicite pour cette victoire tres merite Satour Khalid (capitaine du Maroc ) je crois que le public tres nombreux de Chlef a assiste a une belle rencontre pleine de rebondissement et de fair play Bencharif Faycal(Coach Algerie)la partie a etait tres serre face une formation marocaine bien prepare mon equipe a etait handicape par la blessure de certains joueurs Ali Kerboua (capitaine Algerie) ma blessure au niveau de l epaule me gene c est pour cela que j ai pas assez jouer ,j ai quelques apparition tactique du coach que je remercie pour la confiance

Morocco crashes Nigeria in the opening match

Alger, Algeria, May 26, 2009- The highly performing Morocco Men’s volleyball team sweeps Nigeria in straight sets in the opening match of the 2010 Men’s World Championship second round Africa Pool A tournament held here at Naceria Hall in Chlef, Algeria on Tuesday. Morocco leads the pool in the opening day of the three Nation championship that showed early withdrawal of the fourth team RD Congo.

The competition will be qualifying to the third round Africa C and D that will be organized in Egypt and Tunisia respectively next August.

Morocco used their dominance in all the attacking skills to achieve a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) in 69 minutes in front of 1300 Algerian spectators who wanted to follow up the teams they will face in the second and third competition days.

The efficient morocco spikers Mahmed Allaoui and Khalid Satour as well as Youssef Oughlaf played the greatest role in this victory that make their record 1-0 in the competition first match while Nigeria dropped to 0-1.

The second day features a big face off between the organizer Algeria and Morocco in what is considered as an early final of the competition on Wednesday as the winner will have a great chance of leading the table at the end of the competition.
Morocco meets Nigeria in the opening under observation of the organizer Algeria

Alger, Algeria, May 26, 2009- The emerging Morocco Men’s volleyball team meets Nigeria in the opening day of the 2010 Men’s World Championship second round Africa Pool A held here at Naceria Hall in Chlef, Algeria on Tuesday. After the withdrawal of R D Congo the tournament will comprise three National teams competing for the second African Men’s tournament after Mozambique hosted the first tournament Africa Pool B early this month.

The first competition match will be under supervision of The Algerian head coach Fayçal Hamida Bencharif as he will meet both teams in the second and third competition days.

The big African forces Algeria is considered the biggest contenders for the competition as they play with a squad including 4 European based professional players who constitute the biggest experience in the competition.

Morocco wants to come back to the top African level through this team that was formed mainly from the youth team that represented the country in the 2007 Men’s Junior World championship in their homelands.

Nigeria also wants to regain their African prestigious situation after 8 years outside the list of final 4 in the continent.

Algeria prepare to host the 2010 World Championship tournament by a new look team


Alger, Algeria, May 13, 2009- The Algerian Men’s Volleyball team finishes the final preparation for the 2010 World Championship Tournament to be hosted by Algeria 26-28 May 2009 at Nacera Hall in Chlef through a camp in Ain Benian for a week. The second round tournament will show a competition between 4 teams for three third round slots as it features the host Algeria, the African big forces Nigeria and Morocco as well as the emerging team of RD Congo.

The Algerian head coach Fayçal Hamida Bencharif who took over the responsibility till the Algerian federation finishes the negotiations to give the responsibly to a forign coach selected 18 players for the completion squad to select the final 12 players out of them. The selected team includes 4 players playing outside Algeria who are left attacker Kheridine Zorgui (29 y.), the setter Lyes Ould Ammar (26 y.), the middle blocker Riad Amrane (31 y.) and Rachid Benhellal (30 y.). The other selected players who were chosen from the local league in Algeria are Oumessaâd Amine, Messaoud Debbih, Adel Mahmoudi,(libero) , Bilal Soualem (GSP ex-MCA), Toufik Belaïd, (NRBBA), Youcef Zerouki Toufik Mahjoubi, Yacine Hakemi (POC) Fatehi Beraria libero (USMB), Nassim Tertag, Chahine Zaïchi,(Etoile Setif) Khaled Kessaï , Salahdienne Saidi (MBBj) Yacine Lamri, (ITR Sétif), et Hamza Semahi libero (WoROUIBA)
