Pool B- Maputo, Mozambique
4 teams complete for the third round slots
Maputo, Mozambique, April 30, 2009- Maxaquene Maputo Hall in the
capital of Mozambique will be the scene for the first event of
the 2010 Volleyball World Championship to be held in the African
continent when 4 National teams; the host Mozambique, Mauritius,
Malawi and Zimbabwe compete for the third round slots to be held
next August.
The round robin tournament features two strong matches in the
opening day when Mauritius meets Zimbabwe followed by a popular
match between the host Mozambique and Malawi on Friday May 1.
The top three teams of this tournament will qualify to the third
round where the first and second play in the African Pool E
while the third qualifies to the Pool D.
Mozambique team prepared well for the tournament as they had a
long term preparation program through internal camps followed by
some friendly matches. Mozambique participated regularly in the
African competitions in the last few years wither at the club or
National team level as they participate in the 2007 African
Nations Championship in South Africa as well as the club
competitions in 2007 and 2008.
Zimbabwe emerged since they qualified to the 2007 All Africa
Games in Algeria when they showed their best performance.
Mauritius men’s team wants to follow the footsteps of their
women’s counterparts that show full consistency since the
organization of the 2006 World championship qualification
tournament in Vacoas.
Malawi needs positive results after a long absence from the
finals of the African competitions with a team of promising
youngsters.
“We need to organize a successful competition at the highest
level of the sport all over the world,” Mozamique volleyball
Federation President Camilo Antao said. “Our team is prepared
will to qualify to the third round which will be an additional
preparation for the 2009 African Nations Championship.”
The competition will be broadcasted live through the local TV
and Radio channels in Maputo. |
