2008 Women’s African
Clubs Champions Championship- Cairo, Egypt |
10 teams registered with all the favorites available
Cairo, Egypt, April 25, 2008- Ten teams were registered
to
participate in the 2008 Women’s African Clubs Champions
Championship to be Held in Abdalla El Faysal Hall at
Ahly club in
Cairo, Egypt 27 April to 4 May with all the big
favorites available
including the last two champions, the 2006 champions KC
Bank of
Kenya and 2007 champions Al Ahly of Egypt.
The drawing of lots will be held on Saturday to divide
the
participating teams into two pools, where they compete
in a round
robin format and the first and second of each pool will
qualify to the
semifinal.
The 4 times champions Al Ahly of Egypt will be a great
favorites
for the title with the experience of some old players
like Yosra
Abdel Karim, Miral Raouf and Sherihan Sameh as well as a
group
of younger players like Hagar Badr. The defending
champions will
have also an extra power through their excited
spectators.
KC Bank of Kenya will compete to return back the trophy
using
some new players and led by the promising head coach
Paul Bitok
who produced more than ten players fro the national team
in the
last few years.
Coming back with a new staff of promising players
Mouloudia of
Algeria wants to follow the footsteps of the women’s
national team
that qualified early this year to the 2008 Beijing
Olympic Games by
gaining this trophy.
Al Shams of Egypt, the runner up of the local
competition and the
semifinalist of the last continental competition will be
a great
favorite also with their stars led by the best African
Middle blocker
Injy El Shamy.
In absence of Pipelines of Kenya who have 5 titles of
this
competition under their built, Kenya Prisons will be a
great force to
be respected as they will be led by the experienced
coach David
Lungaho.
Other competing clubs are Mafolofolo of Botswana who
qualified
to the semifinal of the 2006 edition, Bafia Evolution of
Cameroon,
Nkumba University of Uganda, VC Canon of RD Congo and
Old
Boys of Zimbabwe who is the only team not confirming
their arrival.
