Tunisia vs. Egypt
Tunisia
used the weapon of strong spike services and the
disturbed Egyptian team reception to pull of a big
victory 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) in 66 minutes. The
match super star Eliyes Karamosly who was chosen as the
competition most valuable player (MVP) played a great
role in this victory not only with his razor sharp
services but also with his unstoppable hits that made a
persistent pressure on the Egyptian players all through
the match. The right and left attackers Hamza Nagga and
Chokri Juini played also a great role with their spikes
deceiving the Egyptian block.
It was really great to win the African competition after
a hard work with this group of players,” Said Tunisia
head coach Hedi Karray after the match. “My strategy was
to make continuous pressure with pour service and the
players succeeded to do this continuously and I think it
was the key of the victory. Also I’m happy with my
attacker Karamosly who was really great today.” He
added.
Egypt head coach Emad Nawar was greatly upset after the
match because his players didn’t play even 50% of their
power due to over stress before the match. “We tried our
best to make the players out of this stress but they
didn’t respond and actually we missed due to the bad
reception and the frequent reception mistakes.
Tunisia used the big support of the home crowd to have a
big start that allowed Tunisia to stay ahead 4-2 due to
the efficient spikes of Elyes Karamosly and the service
of Chokri Jouini. Egypt players fell into many mistakes
due to their improper concentration and thus Tunisia
went ahead 8-4 at the FTT. Tunisia used well their
dominance by the net as the right attacker Hamza Nagga
and the center Ahmed Khadhi did good job and allowed
Tunisia to continue leading 16-11. Tunisia continued the
pressure with the spikes service of Nagga and the spikes
of Karamosly to win the set 25-17.
Egypt started the second set in a better performance due
to the improvement in the reception that allowed them to
build up the attacks through the wing spikers as Mohamed
Khattab and Reda Heikal spiked well from the wings to
penetrate the strong Tunisian block. Egypt led 5-1
forcing the Tunisian coach to call timeout where he
adjusted the defense as Tunisia came near again and
reached to the first draw 12-12. Through two spikes from
Khattab Egypt proceeded to lead 16-14 at the STT.
Tunisia rebounded after some successful blocks against
the Egyptian spikers and drew 18-18 before leading
20-18. Again the Egyptian players were disturbed in
reception and digging as Tunisia went through to win the
set 25-22.
Again Egypt improved their backline defense and
succeeded to lead 5-2 due to the good blocks from
Mohamed Anis and Mamdouh Abdel Aal, but quickly Tunisia
applied their attacking strategy through Juini and
Karamosly to draw 7-7 before Egypt finished 8-7 at the
FTT. The Tunisian spikers succeeded frequently to
deceive the Egyptian block frequently and hit the ball
beside the approach of the block so they regained the
lead 14-12 before they finished 16-15 at the STT.
Through the fast attacks from position 3 Egypt regained
the lead and reached to 16-14.
Morocco vs. Algeria
The competition one of the best attackers Mohamed
Allaoui led Morocco to defeat Algeria 3-1 (17-25, 28-26,
25-23, 25-13) in 103 Minutes in the bronze medal match.
Morocco kept their position of the last edition of the
competition and won the bronze medal while as Algeria
finished fourth same like there end at the 2006 edition.
“After we lost the chance to play for the gold medal, I
think the bronze medal is a good achievement for the
players, the technical staff and the Moroccan volleyball
federation,” Said Morocco head coach Mohamed Abdalloui
happily after the match. “Today we owe much to our star
Mohamed Allaoui who continued his high performance in
the competition.” He added.
Algeria deployed their solid block from the start of the
set against the Moroccan attacks specially the big gun
Mohamed Allaoui and thus they maintained the pressure
through their attacks led by Billal Soualem and the
center Algeria led 8-6 but the point difference widely
increased thereafter until they won the set comfortably
25-17.
The second set showed a different picture as Morocco
improved there defense through the Libero Ahmed El
Alaoui and Morocco started to use the wing spikers
Mohamed Alaoui from position 4 and Youssef Oughlaf from
position 2 as Morocco led widely 8-5 at the FTT and
continued ahead 16-11 at the STT. The Algeria team led
by Soualem came back consistently as they decreased the
point deficit gradually till they drew 24-24 during the
most exciting part of the set. Morocco lost two set
points but finally due to service and digging mistakes
lost the set 28-26 and the result became 1-1 in sets.
Algeria regained their discipline and the skilful setter
Messaoud Debbih led the combinations through centers
Amine Brahna and Irathene Atfadel as Algeria proceeded
to lead 8-4 at the FTT. Morocco used their strong
attackers Allaoui and Oughlaf to regain their
performance. As per the second technical time out
Algeria was usually ahead one or two points, but Morocco
made a good finish where the setter Moustafa Taoufik was
the star of the critical time with his combinations that
led his team to win 25-23.
Morocco maintained their pressure at the start of fourth
set as they went ahead 5-0 forcing the Algerian coach to
call timeout. Morocco made it one side game till the end
of the set with the efficient spike of Allaoui to win
the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.
