Tunis,
Tunisia, August 29, 2008- Cameroon won the fifth
position of the 2008 Men’s Junior African Nations
Championship following their victory over South Africa,
while Benin won the seventh position winning Botswana in
the ranking position matches here at Sidi Bousaid Hall
in Tunis, Tunisia on Friday.
The competition will feature a fantastic final between
the two big arch rivals Egypt and Tunisia to determine
the winner of the competition who will clinch
automatically the African slot to the 2009 FIVB World
Junior Men World Championship. Tunisia who has 6 titles
under their built will battle for the seventh record,
while the defending champions Egypt seeks he fourth cup
and the third in the last four competitions.
During the competition a big positive news of
volleyball happened when CAVB Vice President and the
previous Tunisia Volleyball Federation President Bechir
Loazir was nominated as vice Minister of Sports and
Youth of Tunisian Ministry of Sport.
Cameroon vs. South Africa
Cameroon played their best in the competition to cruise
past South Africa 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-22) in 70
minutes. Cameroon’s left attacker Jean Ntabeye palyed a
great role in the victory with his unstoppable hits with
thr aid of the opposite David Feughouo. Cameroon
finished fifth while South Africa finished sixth.
Cameroon head coach Peter Nonnenbroich was happy with
the fifth position with this group of players but not
for Cqameroon. “We are happy to achieve the fifth
position with this group of palyers and without our main
stars but for Cameroon it is not a good position.
Benin vs. Botswana
Benin clinched the seventh position following their
victory over Botswana 3-0 (28-26, 25-15, 25-14) in 69
minutes. Botswana started the match as the better side
as they were leading most of the first set and lost two
set points as Benin won narrowly 28-26, thereafter Benin
overwhelmed the match completely to win the match in
straight set
Benin head coach head coach was happy to win two
matches out of five in the competition and to get the
seventh position in the first participation. “As the
first participation in the competition of this age
category I’m happy to see my team performing like that
and to win two matches in this biog level.” He said
Botswana head coach Carlos Fellove was angry because
his players didn’t perform well and the players were not
able do anything. I want also to inform the federation
that we have to prepare enough time before such
competitions.” He said.
