Tunisia edges Egypt in a
classic final
Tunis,
Tunisia, December 30, 2008- The defending champions and
organizers Tunisia added the third title in this year's age
category championship after the won the ninth Girls Youth
African Nations Championship following their victory over Egypt
in a classic North African final at Sidi Bousaid Hall in the
Tunisian capital of Tunis on Tuesday. The victory put Tunisia at
the top of the round robin competition to secure a 2009 Girls
Youth FIVB World Championship. Egypt finished second with a win
loss record of 1-1 while Algeria finished third.
The Tunisian girls rebounded back from one set behind to edge e
Egypt 3-1 (17-25, 30-28, 25-19, 25-19) in 106 minutes. Egypt
started the match with their best performance to win the first
set widely, and then they led many times in the second set
before losing in the longest competition set 30-28. The Tunisian
team team's spirit rose to the utmost to win the third and the
fourth sets and the match 3-1.
This competition is the fourth and the last of all the age group
championship qualifying to the next year’s FIVB World
Championships after Tunisia and Egypt Men’s youth teams, Egypt
Women’s youth and Tunisia boys secured their vacancies before in
their corresponding competitions. Tunisia won three competitions
out of four while Egypt won the fourth.
