Egypt ready to meet China without the captain El Safi

Cairo, Egypt, June 24, 2008- Egypt men’s volleyball team arrived to China on Tuesday to prepare for the important meetings against China in the third weekend of the intercontinental round of the 2008 FIVB World League on Saturday and Sunday 28 and 29 June at Zhejiang Prov. Huanglong Gym in Hangzhou- China. The Egyptian team who surprisingly led Pool D at the end of the second weekend following their double victory over Japan in Alexandria is optimistic to continue the same in the matches against China to stay at the top of the pool that also includes Poland and Japan.

Egypt will be without their experienced Captain Hamdy El Safi who decided to stay home for a family problem and was replaced the the emerging star Mohamed El Daboosy for both matches in China and also for the two matches againt Jaspan in the fourth weekend.

“We were obliged to leave the team captain El Safi who had a great role in the three victories against Poland and Japan in the first and second weekend,” Said Egypt head coach Ahmed Zakaria. “I think we will lose a great power of the team in his absence, but we should get used to play without this 36 years old star after his great performance with the national team for more than 18 years. Otherwise our team will be with the same line up that had the two victories against Japan led by our strong machine of points Ahmed Salah who was the scorer of the team till now.” He added.

Other stars of the team to play china are the wing spiker Mohamed Badawy, the Italian based setter Abdalla Abdel Salam and the emerging middle blocker Abdel Latif Ahmed who started his international career successfully in this edition of the World League.

Egypt leads Pool D at the end of the second weekend with 7 points from a win- loss record of 3-1 while China comes at the third position with 6 points from 2-2 record after Poland who comes second only with the point ratio.
