Tunisia secured a World Championship berth
Tunis, Tunisia, July 30-: The Organizers, Tunisia secured the last
African vacancy in 2006 World championship in Japan after their
third victory in African Pool C second round qualification
tournament in the Tunisian Capital over Algeria in straight sets to
win the tournament without dropping a set. South Africa continued
their surprises as they achieved their second victory over Morocco
3-0 to secure the second position in the final ranking with five
points in front of Algeria and Morocco.
Tunisia used the home crowd to have a comfortable victory 25-12,
25-23, 25-16 using the artistry of the setter and team captain Ghazi
Guidara who used his fine setting to allow his spikers specially
Noureddine Hfaiedh and Hosni Karamosly to dominate the net action
all through the match to win the last African vacancy in 2006 World
Championship.
South Africa continued the big surprises they started in the first
day when they defeated the experienced Algerian team to have a
second victory against Morocco 25-23, 26-24, 25-20. The South
African spikers Freedom Chiya and Thokozani Ntuij played a fantastic
match and had a great role in this victory.

Tunisia leads
with second victory
Tunis, Tunisia, July 29-: The host team, Tunisia continued the
victory rhythm with their second win over South Africa in straight
sets in the second day of 2006 Men’s World Championship African Pool
C second round qualification tournament to become near a World
Championship spot in the final day of the tournament on Saturday.
Algeria had an exciting victory over their neighbors, Morocco in a
five setter match.
Tunisia took the match seriously against South African team which
achieved a big surprise in the first day beating Algeria so they
started with their main line up as their stars Noureddine Hfaiedh
and Hosni Karamosly controlled the net action to lead from the start
comfortably to win the match in straight sets 25-13, 25- 17, 25-18.
The organizers used also the high performance of their experienced
centre Chaker Ghazal in block against the South African big gun
Freedom Chiya.
In the best match of the competition Algeria had a difficult victory
over Morocco after the first tie breaker in the tournament 25-20,
20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 16-24. the Algerian star Ali Kerboua played a
big role in this victory with his strong spikes, while Zakaria Bairi
was the best player in the loser's team.
In the competition final day, Saturday Tunisia will play Algeria,
and Morocco meets South Africa

Tunisia start successfully and South
Africa set the first surprise
Tunis, Tunisia, July 28-: The host team , Tunisia –had a successful
start in the 2006 Men’s World Championship African Pool C second
round qualification tournament beating their neighbors, Morocco in
straight sets. The emerging South African team sets the first
competition surprise after their 3-1 victory over Algeria.
In front of big spectators in Palais des sports d'El Menzah hall in
the Tunisian capital the organizers found it easy to go through in
their opening match against Morocco to win 25-15, 25-13, 25-16. The
Tunisian spiker Noureddine Hfaiedh was the match star as usual
scoring 12 points and coming as his team best scorer. He was aided
by the strong spikers Hosni Karamosly and Marouane Fehri. The
Tunisian block led by Chaker Ghazal was too strong to stop Morocco
attacks through Zakaria Bairi.
For South Africa it was their first big victory against big African
team in history and their first ever against Algeria as they win
25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18 in 90 minutes of exciting volleyball. The
strong spiker Freedom Chiya was the match star scoring 18 points for
his team. The highly emerging South African team played a historic
match and ensure that they are coming quickly towards the
continental crowns. Andile Masinga and Thokozani Ntuli were also the
winners' stars while the Algerian team showed poor performance as
one of the African big forces.
