2006 Men’s Volleyball World Championship:
USA and Iran, One team in Volleyball Peace Philosophy

Nagano, Japan, November 23-: Volleyball showed many expressions of peace during the 2006 FIVB World Championships in Japan as the FIVB President Dr. Ruben Acosta insists to involve our beloved sport in the World community and to make the sport as a peace message all over the world. As Dr. Acosta attended the Peace Ceremony in Hiroshima to commemorate the victims of the Atomic bomb on Thursday, there was another peace ceremony in Nagano but with a different view.

USA and Iran teams insisted to have a photo together before and after their match of preliminary pool C in Nagano to show the world that volleyball collected the two countries under one flag which is the FIVB Flag of peace in spite of all what is going now in the political field around the nuclear activity in Iran.

Although the match was very critical to USA team to qualify to the second round, but the friendly spirit of the two teams made a fantastic situation to show the non- violent nature of the sport when the players and technical staff of both teams had one photo together before and after the match.

Both coaches of the teams declared their opinion regarding the role of the sport to decrease the violence all over the world. “We came here to meet and play volleyball to show the world that we are one body and we can create friendship between all the youth all over the World through the sport,” Said USA Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon. “We sent a message through this match that we have not to think of politics as we are in the sports field.” He added.

Iran Head coach Milorad Kjiac was happy to see these friendly sensations from all the players and all the technical staff. “Both teams were interested to have a collective photo together before and after the match,” Kjiac said after the historic match. We are happy to see that role of volleyball which unifies the world whatever the religion, the race or the Nationality.

The Iranian press was impressed with the friendly sensation and the accompanying press officer Rahim Zadah was interested to conduct the photo to all his countries media. “We are coming here to play volleyball not to think of politics and so we are happy to see this friendly environment which was created by volleyball under Dr. Ruben Acosta’s Presidency.” The press officer said.
