Match Flash:
Pipelines fastened the game to

trophy for the second successive time.
Match Description:
Ahly began the match in attacking
rhythm with different spiking activity using
the wing spikers Noran Elmaghawry and Hagar
Badr to lead 13-12 before pipelines
controlled the match through their big guns
Catherine Wanjiru and Esther Jepkosegei to
continue leading and win the set 25-18.
In the second set Pipelines used the solid
block of Emily Chemutai to stop Ahly spikers
who made many silly mistakes to allow
pipelines to lead 16-12. The Kenyan team
used the fast attacks to penetrate Ahly
block and win the set 25-21.
The spirit of Ahly players decreased a lot
in the third set and they didn't accommodate
the noise of the spectators attending the
final and this allowed Pipelines to dominate
the net completely through the experienced
players Esther, Catherine and Leonidas
Kamende. Ahly reception was not good and
this allowed Pipeline to apply their tactics
and win the set 25-18.
Press Conference:
Ahly Head Coach, Raouf Abdelkader:
My team played the match without trust to
achieve the victory so they couldn't control
their performance and appeared disturbed and
lacked concentration. Our most important
defect was the first pass as it didn't allow
the players to apply my strategy. The best
players in my team were both setters Yosra
Abdelkarim and Miral Raouf
Pipelines Head Coach, David Lung'aho:
I'm very proud of my team which won the
trophy for the second time in raw and happy
with their performance which allowed them to
win the title. I hope to continue with the
team to win the cup next year. We played a
fast game and this disturbed our opponent's
performance. I think Ahly lost the hope to
win the cup after the second set. I want now
to add some young players to the team to
enhance our future.

Telkom players played without motivation
because they lost in semifinal and were
supposed to play for the trophy, while my

team structure. I used some substitutes in
the third set to relief the main players and
they did well to come from behind and win
the set
Telkom Head Coach, Paul Mgitau:

it showed decrease in the performance of
Algerian players because of fatigue after
playing a five setter match against Telkom
of Kenya the day before. KC Bank team again
used the unstable opponent to penetrate
their weak block and win the set 25-19 and
the match in straight sets.
Press Conference:
Chlef Head Coach, Saleh Boussaid:
My players were very tired because we played
two matches in less than 24 hours and this
made my prominent stars completely out of
order and they didn't concentrate to lose by
very silly mistakes.
KC Bank Head Coach, Paul Bitok:
My players have got experience from the two
matches we played because most of them are
young and we collected them from schools. We
used the lack of concentration of our
opponent to have this victory although Chlef
is very respectable team.
Match 5
NC Bejaia vs. ARSU
Match Headline:
Bejaia defeated the solid ARSU 3-1
Match Flash:
NS Bejaia team of Algeria achieved the first
victory in the competition over the solid
ARSU team of Seychelles 3-1 (25-12, 20-25,
25-22, 25-23)
Match Description:
NS Bejaia team of Algeria pulled off a
difficult victory in the competition over
the solid ARSU team of Seychelles 3-1
(25-12, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23).
The first set was a one side game towards
Bejaia team as they were the dominant side
all through by the effective spikes of the
wing spiker Lidya Oulmou and the highly
technical setting by Yamina Azim to win the
set very quickly 25-12.
The second set appeared as if it is another
match as ARSU team arranged block to face
the strong hits of Bejaia. Rita Laduce,
Mosiane Ancono and the experienced Marie
Anne played an important role to allow ARSU
to predominate the net action to lead 16-11
then ending the set 25-20.
In the third set ARSU kept the momentum to
8-7 by the activity of the setter Emilie
Joubert and the spikes of Mosiane. Again
Bejaia regained the rhythm by the activity
of Lidya Oulmou and Nawal Mansouri to end
the set 25-22.
The fourth set showed a matter of
controversy as ARSU made a wonderful show to
lead 16-9 by the second technical time out
and showed that they were on the way to
extend the match to tie break. But suddenly
the team coach committed many mistakes in
subsitiutions to allow the Algerian team to
decrease the point deficit gradually then
using the reception mistakes of their
opponent to win the set 25-23.
Press Conference:
Bejaia Coach, Aimad Hamdani:
We played very confident to win the match so
my players lost their concentration after
the won the first set easily. Most of my
players were out of their form so we lost
many points easily in the third and fourth
sets.
ARSU Coach, James Camille:
I'm completely responsible for this defeat
because I committed substitution mistakes in
the fourth set when we were leading 19-11,
thus we lost the set which may extend the
match to tie break. The players did their
job efficiently but we paid the price due to
my own mistakes.
Match

achieve a thriller victory 3-2 (25-15,
18-25, 19-25, 27-25, 15-5) over the
favorites Telkom of Kenya.
Match Description:
In one of the best competition matches of
the competition Chlef of Algeria used the
high performance of the emerging players to
achieve a thriller victory 3-2 match (25-15,
18-25, 19-25, 27-25, 15-5).
Chlef team started the match with a solid
line up in front of a big attendance of
spectators in Kasarany Hall to lead 16-9 by
the effective spikes of the international
player Faiza Tsabet and the efficient setter
Fatma Zahraa. Telkom team tried to regain
their pace by improving their backline
defense against the strong hits of the
Algerian team but they failed to allow Chlef
to win the first set 25-15.
The second set showed a completely different
picture as Telkom team regained their
concentration to lead 8-5 after Chlef led
5-3 by the effective spikes of Edna Rotich
and Jackline Barasa. Telkom spirit increased
a lot aided by the big spectators to
continue in this high performance and win
the set 25-18 bringing the match to draw.
Telkom became more stable in the third set
to lead narrowly 8-7 by the first technical
time out. Although Chlef players improved
their block against the strong hits of their
opponent they couldn't stop their lead as
Telkom won the set 25-19.
The fourth set was the most exciting one as
Chlef wanted to save the match, while telkom
wanted to end the big battle. Telkom was
better till the first technical time out to
using the artistry of the spiker Esther
Barono. Chlef improved through both Algerian
international players Faiza Tsabet and Amal
Khamtache to lead 16-14. Thriller period
started after as Chlef performance raised to
the top to win the set 25-27.
The tie breaker went point by point till
4-4, but the match star Faiza Tsabet started
here strong hits to lead 14-4 and ending the
set 15-5.
Press Conference:
Chlef Head Coach, Saleh Boussaid:
It was a very exciting match in the
competition till now. I'm happy to start
positively in this first competition for my
team. The match was very exciting as we
played against big spectators. My entire
player did well specially the effective
spiker Faiza Tsabet and the setter Fatma
Zahraa.
Telkom Head Coach, Paul Mgitau:
My team lacked concentration in the field
especially in reception and this allowed the
opponent to use our mistakes to win the
points successively. I had a disadvantage in
my team which is the old age of my players
compared with the younger age of the
Algerian players who were more flexible and
physically fit to perform their job.
Match
3: Al-Ahly vs. ARSU
Match Headline:
Al-Ahly of Egypt clinched the first victory
over ARSU of Seychelles
Match Flash:
The favorite Al-Ahly team of Egypt started
the journey in the African Cup successfully,
recording a straight sets victory (25-19,
25-14, 25-14) over
ARSU of Seychelles.
Match Description:
Al-Ahly team started the African Cup
successfully, recording a straight sets
victory (25-19, 25-14, 25-14) over ARSU of
Seychelles.
Egyptian players started the match more
concentrating using the strong hits of
Sherihan Sameh and the highly technical
setting by the experienced international
player Yosra Abelkarim to lead 8-4 and
16-10. Then Amina Foad and the promising
middle player Hagar Badr played their role
to win the first set 25-19.
In the second set Al-Ahly players used the
mistakes of ARSU Players to lead all through
the set. Although the spiker Ancono Mosiane
and the setter, Marie Rose of ARSU played
well, Al-Ahly continued their rhythm to win
the set 25-14.
The third set went the same as Noha Mahmoud
did a good job to allow Al-Ahly to win more
easily 25-14.
Press Conference:
Ahly Coach, Raouf Abdelkader:
My team played well in their first match
without the best Africa player Tahany Toson.
The players got a great confidence from the
match which is very important to continue
the way towards the trophy. I think we
applied the tactics well before the more
important matches against Bejaia and
Pipelines.
ARSU Coach, James Camille:
We played one of our worst matches because
the team didn't train well before the
competition. We'll do our best to improve in
the coming three matches but the conditions
are very difficult in this tough pool. In my
opinion only spiker Ancono Mosiane and the
setter, Marie Rose did the job well in my
team while Yosra Abelkarim and Noha Mahmoud
were the best in Ahly.

spikes of Ontsira Gampou and Bickindou
Mpembe to lead 15-13 before Kenya regained
their high performance and arranged their
defense to win the set 25-19 and the match
in straight sets.
Press Conference:
Kenya commercial Bank Head coach, Paul
Bitok:
My team consists of young players who
haven't enough experience with such big
championships but they could achieve good
results in this match. I pushed some bench
players in the suitable time in the second
and third set and we succeeded to come from
behind to win both sets. When my players get
more experience I think we will improve
throughout this competition.
Inter Club head Coach, Samuel Nzaou:
We faced a very strong team with many
technical advantages. My team lost many
points by silly mistakes. We started very
weak in the first set but we improved a lot
in the second and third and we could win at
least one of them. Bickindou Mpembe was the
best in my team while Grace and the setter
Janet Wanja were the most prominent in the
Kenyan team.
Match
Pipelines vs. NC Bejaia
Match Headline:
The favorites, pipelines had a convincing
victory over Bejaia 3-0
Match Flash:
The more experienced Pipelines players
managed their first match efficiently
pulling off a straight sets victory over the
strong Bejaia team (25-17, 25-22, 26-24).
Match Description:
Piplines team of Kenya proved their
consistency to clinch a straight sets
victory over Bejaia of Algeria (25-17,
25-22, 26-24). Pipelines team started the
match with more stable performance and used
the powerful spikers Catherine Wanjiru and
Lucy Chege to penetrate the Algerian team
defense to lead 8-3. Bejaia improved their
backline defense to go gradually through the
match using the middle players Lydia Olmow
and Lilia Boululza. Pipelines continued
their attacking performance to win the set
25-17 by a group of tactics by the efficient
setter Judith Serenge.
In the second set Bejaia improved their
block to stop the Kenyan big guns but the
more powerful spikes of Emily Chemutai and
Catherine helped pipelines to lead but
narrower than the first set as they reached
to 8-7 in the first technical time out then
16-13 in the second. Then the match passed

The third set went point by point as both
teams drew several times before Pipelines
used the wing spikers specially Catherine to
lead 16-14. Bejaia again improved their
backline defense to go point by point with
the Kenyan team. The more experienced
pipelines players won all the critical
points to win the set 26-24 and the match in
straight sets.
Press Conference:
Pipelines Coach, Lung'aho David:
It was a tough match in the opening of the
competition, but I prepared well my players
mentally and physically to have this
important victory. We are preparing to win
all the matches to lead the tough pool B and
face the second of the other pool. I thank
all my players because they did well but I
put special thanks to the central blocker,
Emily Chemutai and the wing spiker Catherine
Wanjiru. I think the match between Ahly and
Bejaia will determine the semifinalist of
this pool with my team.
Bejaia Coach, Saadani Aimad:
The match was difficult as it was between
the finalists of the last competition but my
team didn't enter the match technically
excpt in the last few points of the match.
Our performance was rising by the time but
we didn't use all our potential yet. Emily
Chemutai of Pipelines team was the most
valuable player of the match in my opinion
and in my team Lydia Olmow although she
didn't play with full capacity.
