Nairobi, Kenya, April 10-: Pipelines team of
Kenya used the home crown to keep the trophy of the 20th
Women's African Cup of Clubs Champions in their hands
sweeping Al-Ahly team of Egypt in straight sets (25-18,
25-21, 25-18) in the final match of the competition held
in Moi International sports centre in the Kenyan capital
of Nairobi in front of 9.000 spectators.
The match was attended by Mr. Mwangi Kinjuri, the ass.
Minister of Energy, Mr. Gordon Oluoch, Commissioner for
sports, Mr. George Okungy, the managing director of
Kenya Pipelines, Mr. Joshua Okutte, Chairman of Kenya
National sports council and Mr. Ibrahim Efumbi ,
Chairman of Kenya Volleyball Federation. The final was
covered also by the Kenya main TV which is Kenya
Broadcasting Cooperation (KBC) and most of the local

Pipelines managed the final match against Al-Ahly easier
than expected as they played a fast game to disturb
their younger opponents using their better experience
and let them to do many mistakes. Pipelines controlled
the match through their big guns Catherine Wanjiru, who
was chosen as the most valuable player and Esther
Jepkosegei, the best spiker in the competition aided by
the solid block of Emily Chemutai and Leonidas Kamende.
" I'm very proud of my team which won the trophy for the
second time in raw and happy with their performance
which allowed them to win the title” Said Pipelines Head
Coach, David Lung'aho after the final. "I hope to
continue with the team to win the cup next year. We
played a fast game and this disturbed our opponent's
performance. I want now to add some young players to the
team to enhance our future" Added David.
Ahly Head Coach, Raouf Abdelkader said sadly "My team
played the match without trust to achieve the victory so
they couldn't control their performance and appeared
disturbed and lacked concentration. Our most important
defect was the first pass as it didn't allow the players
to apply my strategy"
In the match of third place KCB achieved the first
victory ever over their Compatriots, Telkom 3-0 (25-20,
25-14, 27-25) to win the bronze Medal.
