2005 Women's African Gala Championship- Nigeria:
Egypt lost against the Organizer and claimed the title

Egyptian Volleyball Women Volleyball team claimed the first African Gala Championship in Abuja, Nigeria although they lost their match in the competition final day against the organizers, Nigeria 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 26-24) in a thriller final in front of the excited home spectators.

Nigeria showed their consistency in the match using their better players in attacks and defense and kept fighting till the last moment, even when the Egyptian team came near in the third set.

In the second match England pulled off a straight sets victory over Iceland (25-21, 25-19, 25-16). This victory allowed England to come second in the final ranking ahead of Nigeria coming third and Iceland fourth.
