2005 Women's African Nations Championship:
 
8 teams compete in the strongest ever competition

Abuja, Nigeria, September 7-: Eight Women Volleyball National teams will compete for the trophy of the fifteenth Women's African Nations championship here in Abuja, Nigeria in what is described as the strongest competition in history.
All the women big forces will be present in the competition including the defending champions Egypt, two times Olympians Kenya, 2003 All Africa Games Gold medalists Nigeria and 2006 World Championship qualifiers Cameroon.
Egypt, Kenya, Cameroon and Nigeria are considered as the big favorites for the trophy.
The drawing of lots made in the Nigerian capital on Tuesday showed the organizers Nigeria, Botswana, Cameroon and Tunisia in the strong Pool A, while Pool B constitutes Egypt, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire and Morocco.
The competition will start on Wednesday showing a match between the organizers and Botswana in Pool A. The second day on Thursday will feature three matches; Egypt vs. Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon vs. Tunisia and Kenya vs. Morocco.
"This competition is expected to be the strongest ever in our Women Volleyball history" Said CAVB Executive Director, Mr. Charles Panou. "We hope to have a high standard Volleyball to allow Africa to compete in high performance in 2006 World Championship in Japan being the first competition to include three African teams in the finals Egypt, Kenya and Cameroon as the three teams are competing here."
