2005 Women's African Nations Championship:
 
A surprise victory for Tunisia over Cameroon
Abuja, Nigeria, September 9-: The emerging Tunisian Women team achieved the first surprise in the fifteenth Women's African Nations Championship held in the indoor Hall of National stadium of Abuja, Nigeria as they defeated the World Championship qualifiers, Cameroon in their first match in Pool A of the competition. Both Egypt and Kenya had an easy victory over Cote d'Ivoire and Morocco respectively in their first matches on Thursday.
In a match full of thrills and attracted the local crowds, Tunisia claimed a respected victory over Cameroon after a fantastic five sets meeting (22-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-27, 16-14). The Tunisian emerging stars specially the team captain Rafrafi, Cheikh Asma and Nihel Gouhl played a fantastic role in this victory after a high quality volleyball and their exciting performance.
"We took the revenge from Cameroon after we lost against them in the 2006 World Championship qualification, so we are very happy with this victory" Said Tunisian Head Coach in the press conference after the match.
The Egyptian team captain Tahani Tosson, led Egypt to claim an easy victory over Cote d’Ivoire in straight sets (25-4, 25-10, 25-10) in only 49 minutes. The young Cote d'Ivoire players did their best in the match but the experience of the Egyptian players was the overwhelming.
The more experienced Kenyan team used the outstanding players Violet Barasa, Ndasaba Dorcas, Chege Lucy to win the match against Morocco 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 26-24).
