TUNISIA DEFEATED EGYPT TO GET OLYMPIC TICKET
Tunis, Tunisia, January 10-: Tunisia men team continued the
leading of African volleyball getting the continental ticket of
Olympic Games in Athens 2004 after clinching a straight sets
victory over their Arch Rivals, Egypt in the final day of the
Olympic Qualification, Saturday in the Tunisian capital Tunis.
Tunis ended the four nations' tour in the top of the table with
six points from three victories, followed by Egypt five points
and Algeria third with four points then South Africa fourth with
three points.
In front of the greatest number of spectators in the tournament,
Tunisia team deployed their known solid block to make it dark
for the Egyptians to penetrate and gaining an easier victory
than expected 25-19, 25-16, 25-22. In the first set it was easy
for the Tunisian to use their big guns Noureddine Hfaiedh and
Khalid Belaid against the penetratable Egyptian block after
early and temporary lead 3-1. Tunis quickly modified the result
to 8-4 in the first technical time out. Chaker Ghezal continued
Tunisia predominance in block to win the set 25-19.
The second set went almost the same as most of the Egyptian
experienced players specially the Russian based spiker, Hamdy
Elsafy and the blocker Mahmoud Abdelaziz were completely out of
form. This allowed Tunisia to win the set 25-16 after a group of
attacks led by the clever setter Ghazi Guidara.
The third set was the best for the Egyptians when their Serbian
head coach, Vacline Vukovic pushed the young wing spiker Ahmed
Salah and the tall setter Abdalla Abdelsalam to the court to
lead for the first time in technical time out 8-7, but again
they fall in many reception and service mistakes to pave the way
for the Tunisian players to regain their lead 16-14 and
continued to win the set 25-22.
