TUNISIA DEFEATED EGYPT TO GET OLYMPIC TICKET


Tunis, Tunisia, January 10-: Tunisia men team continued the leading of African volleyball getting the continental ticket of Olympic Games in Athens 2004 after clinching a straight sets victory over their Arch Rivals, Egypt in the final day of the Olympic Qualification, Saturday in the Tunisian capital Tunis. Tunis ended the four nations' tour in the top of the table with six points from three victories, followed by Egypt five points and Algeria third with four points then South Africa fourth with three points.

In front of the greatest number of spectators in the tournament, Tunisia team deployed their known solid block to make it dark for the Egyptians to penetrate and gaining an easier victory than expected 25-19, 25-16, 25-22. In the first set it was easy for the Tunisian to use their big guns Noureddine Hfaiedh and Khalid Belaid against the penetratable Egyptian block after early and temporary lead 3-1. Tunis quickly modified the result to 8-4 in the first technical time out. Chaker Ghezal continued Tunisia predominance in block to win the set 25-19.

The second set went almost the same as most of the Egyptian experienced players specially the Russian based spiker, Hamdy Elsafy and the blocker Mahmoud Abdelaziz were completely out of form. This allowed Tunisia to win the set 25-16 after a group of attacks led by the clever setter Ghazi Guidara.

The third set was the best for the Egyptians when their Serbian head coach, Vacline Vukovic pushed the young wing spiker Ahmed Salah and the tall setter Abdalla Abdelsalam to the court to lead for the first time in technical time out 8-7, but again they fall in many reception and service mistakes to pave the way for the Tunisian players to regain their lead 16-14 and continued to win the set 25-22.

3. Algeria 4 points sets 3-7
