Three Teams compete for World
Championship Vacancies |
Cairo, Egypt,
January 20-: Three African teams will compete together for the
continental vacancies in the 2005 Girls U-18 World Championship
known to be held in Macao. The defending champions, Egypt, will be
the first favorite for the title and also to have a place in the
World Championship. Algeria with a promising team will also be
favorite for a place in the FIVB competition. Tunisia will
participate with a new team aiming at reaching the world level.
The competition will be in a round robin format between the three
teams and competition day one, Friday will see Egypt and Tunisia
competing together. In day two Tunisia meets Algeria, Saturday, then
Egypt will play Algeria Sunday in the final day.
We’ll have great competitors in the championship specially the
promising Algerian team which is one of the most important
volleyball schools in the continent, Stated the Egyptian Trainer ,
Emad Nawar who led the Women’s U-20 team to qualify to the World
championship in this age category last month with the head coach,
Hesham Badrawy. He added that seven of the team players were with
U-20 team which was the Champions in Abuja, Nigeria in December 2004
and the key players were Hagar Badr Eldeen and Marwa Yassin.
Under supervision of the Algerian coach Yazid Reda, the Algerian
team included some experienced players like the spikers Zahra Ben
Salem and Fatma Gawad. The problem which faced the team is that the
competition is coincident with the mid year exams of many student
players; the matter which led to postponing of their exams.
Tunisian girls team is newly formed and so they don’t have enough
experience as mentioned by the coach Mohsen Ben Soliman. |
