Girls U-18 African Nations Championship |
Egypt clinched an important
victory over Tunisia
Cairo, Egypt, January 21-: Egypt Girls clinched an important victory
over Tunisia 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-11, 25-17) in the opening match
of the seventh Girls U-18 African Nations’ Championship in Al- Ahly
hall here in Cairo, Egypt to become near an African vacancy in the
2005 Girls U-18 World Championship in Macao.
In the first set both teams showed lack of experience with the
official matches as most of the players were new emerging since not
more than a year. Tunisian stars Mariem Aloui and Safa Mekki led
their team efficiently to win crucial points till they win the set
25-21 using the weak block and back line defense of Egypt.
The second set showed a completely different picture as the Egyptian
spiker Hagar Maged started her hits with the aid of the setter Samaa
Talaat to win the set 25-18.
The third set was more easy for the Egyptians after good performance
of Marwa Abdel Razek with Hagar to win 25-11.
In the fourth set the Egyptian back line defense improved to stop
the hits of Mariem and Safa and win the set 25-17 after both team
drew 16-16.
The second day will show an important confrontation between Algeria
and Tunisia. |
