2004 Girls U-18 African Nations Championship
Tunisia upset Algeria in a thriller 3-1

Cairo, Egypt, January 22-: Tunisia girls had a thriller victory over Algeria 3-1 ( 25-22, 25-21, 13-25, 25-20) in the second day of the seventh Girls U-18 African Nations’ Championship held in Ahly club in Cairo, Egypt and qualifying to the 2005 Girls U-18 World Championship in Macao. The victory made a complicated situation in the three nations’ tournament as Tunisia lost in the first day against the organizers, Egypt 3-1. The end of the competition Sunday will show a difficult clash between Egypt and Algeria Championship.

The more recent Tunisian team reversed all the expectations and defeated one of the biggest schools in women volleyball due to the high performance of both spikers Safa Mekki and Rouane Ben Regaya. Tunisia started the first set with a stable lineup and succeeded with the spikes of Safa and Rouane to lead from the start 8-5 and 16-13. With the aid of the solid block of Kaouther Jemai Tunisia won the first set 25-22.

In the second set Algeria started aggressively with the spikes of the best player in the match Zohra Bensalem to lead 8-1. Tunisian team improved their back line defence to draw 16-16 and proceed to win the set 25-21.

Tunisian Coach Mohsen Ben Slimane used some bench players to allow the Algerian team to control the net using Fatma Djouadi and Zohra to win the third set 25-13 to extend the match to a fourth set.

The fourth set went exactly the same like the second as the Algerian girls started very active through the strong effiecent service and stong hits to lead 8-3 before Tunisia again used the solid block by Maroua Brahoumi to win the set 25-20 and clinch the first victory.
