8th ALL AFRICA GAMES- COMPETITION DAY THREE
CAMEROON MEN AND WOMEN TOOK THE SPOT LIGHT


Abuja, Nigeria, October 13-: In absence of the organizer's men and women team, Cameroon men and women teams and the Kenyan women draw the attention in the third day of volleyball competition in the eighth All Africa Games here in Abuja, Nigeria with the competition going more exciting. Both Cameroon men and women teams had a straight sets victory over Seychelles after impressive matches, while Kenya women made the best show to come over the emerging Algerian. Egypt and Algeria men became the first teams to qualify to the semifinal after their third victory in raw.

MEN'S COMPETITION

In the most interesting match of the day Algeria had a very difficult victory over the emerging Ghana 3-2 (25-23, 27-29, 23-25, 25-15, 15-11) in the day's only tiebreaker. The unstable performance of the Algerian players made them in a very critical position as they came one set behind Ghana 1-2 after winning the first set, but in the suitable time they took the fast lane to win the fourth set and the tiebreak. Algeria began the match with their stars Nassim Hedroug and Mohamed Hachemi in good form to lead in the first set. The second and third sets showed a good show from Ghana through their scorer and star Casmir Agbenyegah to win both after deploying a solid block and backline defense. Algeria regained their rhythm to win the fourth and fifth sets with their block of Tawfik Belaid and Fares Aberkane. Algeria led Pool A and insured a place in the semifinal

Only 58 minutes were enough for Egypt to take over Botswana in straight sets 25-14, 25-12, 25-18. Egyptian coach, Vaslin Vikavate insisted to play with all his line up including the substitutes and the experienced player Nehad Shehata was the scorer of the team. Egypt led Pool B with three victories and secured a place in the semifinal.

Leslie Naidoo and Freedom Chyia of South Africa Led their team from one set behind Senegal to a 3-1 victory (20-25, 25-18, 25-7, 25-13) after a match of controversy. Senegal began the match very actively by leading the net actions throughBenoit Badji and Pape Ngom. Afterwards South African coach, Vardahan Anganuthoo re-disciplined his team by modifying the rotation and the team deployed good block and back line defense to win three successive sets after good performance of Avinesl Lala.

Cameroon team, the bronze medalist in the last African Nations Championship regained their ambition after their defeat in the opening match against Egypt to achieve straight sets victory over Seychelles (25-13, 25-23, 25-14). The winner's setter Emmanuel Denguessi was the star of the match by leading the different attacking complexes with his teammate Timothe Mbala, the best spiker in the match

WOMEN'S COMPETITION

Kenya the runner up of the last African Nations' Championship in their homelands delivered a volleyball lesson to the emerging Algeria as they won 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-21). Kenya superstar Lucy Chege made here work efficiently by the net with her teammate Dorcas Ndasaba to control the tall Algerian players. The losers made a good first set specially the new star Faiza Tsabet and reached twice the set point to lose narrowly against the more experienced Kenyan players. In the second and third sets Kenya controlled the game by their efficient spikes of Lucy and Nancy Wasawa to win both despite the Algerian struggling.

Cameroon pulled of a straight sets victory over the title holders of the Games, Seychelles (25-20, 26-24, 26-24). The older and more experienced Cameroon players were the better in block by their blockers Angon Belang and Mbeya Ambatta, thus they could stop the hits of Yvonne Legaie and Annie Dugassie, the best Seychelles players.

Egypt, the last African Champions and the continental representative in the next World Cup in Japan, dismissed Mozambique in the shortest of the yesterday's matches 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-9) in only 50 minutes. The Egyptian players Tahani toson and Neamat Badawy were the stars of the match with the setter Yossra Selim. The Egyptian coach Hesham Badrawy played with the substitutes in the third set but they maintain the performance to give Egypt their third win in raw.
