14th AFRICAN MEN'S NATIONS' CHAMPIONSHIP-DRAWING OF LOTS
EARLY FINAL BETWEEN EGYPT AND TUNIS IN THE OPENING
Drawing of lots of the 14th African Men's Nations' championship
put Egypt and Tunisia the most favorite teams to win the cup in
the same group in the first round. Group A includes also Rwanda
and the last minute registered team RD Congo. Group B includes
the defending champions Cameroon , Morocco , South Africa and
Algeria . According to the rules, Egyptian Coach Abdel-Hamid
Elwassimy chooses to play Tunis in the opening day Friday 1
August in what is expected to be the final of the competition.
He stated about this that is good to start with a strong team
than a weak one, and it is good to use the big number of
spectators attending the opening ceremony to get the starting
push. In the first day, Rwanda will meet RD Congo in Group A,
while Cameroon will play Morocco and Algeria will meet South
Africa .
The African champion will qualify to the
2003 World Cup in
Japan
August 16-30.
