2003 AFRICAN WOMEN'S NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP |
EIGHT COUNTRIES COMPETE FOR WORLD
CUP SPOT
Nairobi-Kenya, August 15-: Eight African women teams will compete
for a place in the World Cup in Japan next November through the 14th
African Nations Championship in Nairobi-Kenya, August 16-23. The
competition will be held in Kasarani Hall. Drawing of lots made
Friday put the strongest teams Kenya, the Organizer which has the
record of gaining the cup, with Egypt in the same Group A with
Tunisia and R.D. Congo. Egypt and Kenya represented Africa in the
last World Championship in Germany 2002. Group B is headed by
Seychelles the defending Champions with Senegal, Cameroon and
Nigeria. Kenya team which include the most experienced players in
the continent comes as favorites for the cup with Egyptian team
which won the title twice in the last 8 years and led by the best
player in Africa in the last 10 years Tahany Tosson.
GROUPS:
· GROUP A: Kenya- RD Congo- Tunisia- Egypt.
· GROUP B: Seychelles- Senegal- Cameroon- Algeria.
MATCH SCHEDULE:
· August 16: Egypt-Tunisia, RD Congo-Kenya, Senegal-Algeria,
Cameroon-Seychelles.
· August 17: Tunisia-RD Congo, Algeria-Seychelles, Senegal-Cameroon,
Kenya-Egypt.
· August 18: Cameroon-Algeria, Seychelles-Senegal, Egypt-RD Congo,
Tunisia-Kenya.
· August 19: Rest
· August 20: 4th Gr. A- 4th Gr. B , 3rd Gr. A-3rd Gr. B
Semifinal: 1st Gr. A-2nd Gr. B
1st Gr. B-2nd Gr. A
· August 21: Rest
· August 22: Third place match.
· August 23: Final.
