EGYPT WON THE GOLD

Algeria, October-: Egypt men team regained the predominance in b
oth African and Arab side after their thriller 3-1 (25-22,
25-19, 25-27, 25-21) victory over the organizers, Algeria in the
final of volleyball competition in the tenth All Arab Games in
Beleida, Algeria after a tough match full of spectators problems
which interrupted the match during the third set.
Egypt faced a completely different opponent than that they
played in the preliminary round, when Egypt defeated the
Algerians easily in straight sets.
The first two sets ran almost the same like the preliminary
round when Egypt used its big gun Hamdy El-Safy to penetrate the
Algerian block aided by the experienced setter Maged Mostafa to
win both sets 25-22 and 25- 19 easily. When Egypt started the
third the same rhythm everyone thought that the first match
scenario will be repeated, but suddenly the Algerian spectators
began to through stones and bottles to the field. The referee
stoped the match for 15 minutes after one of the Egyptian
substitutes was injured.
The match turned to the other side when the match continued as
the highly convinced Egyptian players fell in many mistakes and
the Algerian setter began the artistry setting to the talented
Mahdy Hachemi and Nassim to turn the Egyptian leading 19-14 to a
winner of the set 27-25 after the most exciting period of the
match.
The fourth set showed excellent performance of the Algerian
players as it went point by point till 20-20 when Egypt used the
strong spikes of El-Safy, Ahmed Salah and Saleh Fathy to win the
set 25-21 and get the gold medal.
Tunisia regained their performance to get the bronze medal
defeating Saudi Arabia, the only Asian team in the semis 3-1
(28-26, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16).
