Elwani inspects the new Sports
Complex in Ouagadougou and declared his support to organize the
CAVB competitions |

Ouagadougou,
Burkina Faso, March 23, 2009- CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani
inspected the new Sports Hall in the Sports Complex “Palais Des
Sports” at Burkina capital of Ouagadougou during his visit to
attend Zone III meeting. He was accompanied by the delegations
of the countries of the zone where he expressed his happiness to
see such good hall which is the first in the country and
declared his support to Burkina to host one of the big African
events in the opening of this hall. Elwani enhanced the other
zonal countries to start their hard working to reach the top at
both zonal and continental levels.
The President of the country Compaore Blaise promised to
organize this competition under his name and to attend the
opening ceremony of the hall during his reception with the CAVB
President in his Palace two days before.
“The new hall capacity is more than 4000 spectators and has a
good VIP area and marvelous look than can allow Burkina to host
international events comfortably,” Said Elwani while he was
visiting the hall. “I think we can start with the African
competitions but I’m usually optimistic that Burkina can do more
with these facilities.”

Burkina Faso, March 19, 2009- CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani had
a fruitful tour all around during his attendance of the African
Volleyball Zone III General Assembly as he visited the Mayor of
the Burkina Faso Capital of Ouagadougou Simon Compaore and the
Zone main volleyball sponsor of the Zone Colonel Major Gilbert
Diendere at the Presidency Palace here at Ouagadougou, Burkina
on Thursday. The tour was mainly to assess the governmental
support and to follow up the volleyball infrastructure in the
country.
Elwani was accompanied by the Zone President Mr. Sawadougou and
all the Zone National Federations delegations as he followed up
all the facilities done by the local authority to support
volleyball at all levels.
Elwani started his tour visiting the Mayor of Ouagadougou Simon
Copmaore at his office where he received a very positive
feedback about the facilities he did for volleyball during the
last few years. Elwani asked him about the volleyball
infrastructure and how to improve the courts and he replied that
all the governmental authority supported the establishment of
the major indoor hall (The Palais des Sports) in the capital
Ouagadougou which will be ready to receive the matches after a
month. . |

Sudan, November 17, 2008- Mohamed Abdel Majeed Abdel Rahim was
elected as a new
Sudan Volleyball Federation president for a new mandate 2008-
2011 during the ordinary Congress held
at Gadarf State to the west of the Sudan capital of Khartoum.
The congress showed the attendance of 22
members out of total 29 clubs and organizations practicing
volleyball in Sudan as well as a big number of

Algerian women in
steady steps before the Olympics
Algeria waited more than 4 decades to emerge at the
international level in the Women’s volleyball when they
qualified to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games for the
first time in their history. Since Algeria Volleyball
federation was established in 1964 the Women’s Algerian
volleyball was at the shadow of Men’s volleyball as the
Men's category emerged at the African level since the
start of the African Nations Championship in 1967 when
they won the silver medal of the newly born competition
only three years after the federation was registered to
FIVB.

Four KCB players move to prisons team
Nairobi,
Kenya, June 24, 2008- Africa women’s volleyball
champions Kenya Prisons have poached four players from
rival club Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
The players, who ditched the bankers are Salome Wanjala,
Florence Bosire, Loice Tarus and Esther Mwombe.
Prisons coach, David Lung’aho, said: 'Prisons in their
efforts to create a formidable team have acquired four
players from KCB.'
'We have some of the best players in the continent, but
recruitment must be a continuous process for the team to
grow stronger and stronger,' he said.
But KCB coach Paul Bitok said they were not bitter about
the departure of the players. |

Africa in Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournaments
Lausanne,
February 19, 2008 - The Vice-Champion of the African
Olympic Qualification, the Algerian Men’s team, has
confirmed its participation in any of the three Men’s
World Olympic Qualification Tournaments in late May. The
Algerian Women’s team has already qualified for the
Olympics for the first time after winning their African
Qualification Tournament in January. The Men’s team
finished runners-up to Egypt in their African qualifier
in early February and have now been given the
opportunity to earn a berth in Beijing. |
