WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2006- DRAWING OF LOTS

Rome, Italy July 16-: in a big ceremony attended by a number of big characters headed by FIVB President Dr. Ruben Acosta, the drawing of lots of 2006 World Championship was held in the beautiful Giardino d’inverno room in Westin Excelsior hotel in the Italian capital of Rome in presence also of CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani.

Africa will have three vacancies in the Women competition between 24 teams in the finals which will be hosted by Japan and two vacancies in Men’s competition.

In men’s drawing of lots 15 teams will participate in the qualifications as they are divided into two first round pools and two second round pools. First round pool A will include Ghana, Sudan, Uganda and Eritrea, while pool B will include South Africa, Botswana, and Maurice. The champion of each pool through a round robin tour will qualify to the second round in pools C and D. Pool C will include Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and first of Pool B while Pool D will include Egypt, Cameroon, RD Congo and first of pool A. the champions of both pools C and D will qualify directly to 2006 World Championship in Japan

In women’s African Drawing of lots 13 teams will participate to determine three African teams in 2006 finals. The participating teams were divided into three pools, in pool A Egypt, Nigeria, Botswana and South Africa and in pool B Kenya, Algeria, RD Congo, Congo Brazzaville and Eritrea. In pool C will be Cameroon, Tunisia, Maurice and Uganda. The champions of each pool through a round robin tour will qualify directly to 2006 World Championship.
