AFRICA VOLLEYBALL GETS BENEFIT FROM CONFEJES MEETING

CAVB Executive director, Mr. Charles Panou represented the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) in the meeting of consultation between sport development partners in Africa organized by the CONFEJES in Dakar- Senegal from 20 to 22 October 2004. The meeting was attended by 7 International Federations (Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, Rugby and School Sport Association.) and 9 African Sports Confederations delegations 7 of them were headed by their presidents (Athletics, Boxing, cycling, handball, Judo, Rugby, table tennis and School Sport Association) and two were represented by official mandated delegates.(badminton, volleyball). Olympic Solidarity was represented by its Deputy Director Pamela VIPOND.

The meeting was very fruitful for the future of African sports specially in the Olympic level hoping to increase the number of medals gained by the African athletes in the next Olympic Games in Beijing 2008. The delegations discussed the evaluation of the partnership between the CONFEJES and African Sports Confederations in terms of Courses and projects and also the promotion of Women sports. The actions taken against the athletes tested positive in doping control tests took a long discussion aiming to have drug free African athletes.

The meeting also discussed the value early transfer of the young Africa players to the big training institute in Europe to improve their talent capabilities and allow them to have enough training according to the most recent technology. Mr. Panou stated that Africa will show great progress in the next few years if they follow the recommendations of this meeting.
