FRUITFUL VOLLEYBALL EFFORTS IN NIGER

In an attempt to change the volleyball map in Niger to compete for the international level, the Niger volleyball Federation (FENIVOLLEY) under presidency of Mr. Sidiyane Amada made a great effort to prepare generations of youth through 25 development centers all over the country. These centers included 12 in the capital Niamey.

The work in these centers started in December 2001 till December 2003 and this period was enough to produce generations of young players who will help the development of volleyball in this West African country. The centers helped also to graduate many trainers and coaches who help in more success in these areas.

The federation efforts was directed also to the women’s side to help the improvement of Niger women volleyball through the heavy participation of girls in the development centers to the extent that they constitute half of the players. The big number of well trained players helped to form a women national team for the first time since 1960. This team will participate at the end of current July in the eighth Solidarity tournament in Lome, Togo for francophone countries. Niger shared with a women volleyball team in the seventh edition of solidarity tournament in there homelands 2003. the women team will be a revolution in next few years but after they get enough experience.
