2005 Debswana Men's
Independence Cup:
PDF and Teletswana clubs to
final
PDF and Teletswana clubs secured their final spot
vacancies in 2005 Debswana Men's Independence Cup held
in Mahalapye Railways Grounds with participation of 13
clubs.
The participating teams were divided into 4 preliminary
pools as pool A includes BDF, Orapa and Desert Kings-
Pool B; Teletswana, Mafolofolo and Itekeng- Pool C;
Spartans, Tanian, Prisons- and Pool D; Mag Stimela,
Kutlwano, V/ Seekers and Stars.

Kenya
Intensifies Training for Women's African Cup of Nations
in Abuja
Two times Olympians Kenya women national volleyball team
ended their preparation for the African Cup of Nations
which throws off in Abuja, Nigeria from September 5.
Kenya comes as one of the most favorites for the trophy
with both Egypt the defending champions and Nigeria with
their new promising team. Algeria with their newly
formed team will be also great competitors.

The thrills and
excitements of Damaturu Volleyball Open in Nigeria
From July 12 to 16, volleyball players and officials
from far and wide in the country converged on Damaturu,
Yobe state to mark the 3rd edition of Governor Bukar
Abba Ibrahim Open Volleyball Championship which is fast
turning to a carnival of a sort. Even though, winners
and losers of the competition have emerged, the thrills,
frills and excitement of the one week event will
continue to linger.
GROWING in leap and bounds, the Governor Bukar Abba
Ibrahim Open Volleyball Championship which came under
way in the year 2003 has come to stay, as one of the
regular calendar programme of the Nigeria Volleyball
Federation (NVBF).

Dr. Elwani Elected
in the Egyptian Olympic Committee
Cairo, Egypt, July 29-: CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani
was elected anonymously
on
Friday as an Egyptian Olympic Committee Board member in
the elections done in the Olympic headquarters in Cairo,
Egypt. Elwani, well known of his great work in both
continental and international level in volleyball field,
was before the president of the Olympic medical
commission in the last mandate.
Dr. Elwani is the current Egyptian Volleyball Federation
(FEVB) President for the third mandate and was elected
in 2001 for the first time as CAVB president as he had
many achievements in both positions. He is now the FIVB
executive vice- President. He was also the head of
Egyptian Olympic delegation in the 2004 Athens Olympic
Games.

23rd Arab Cup of Clubs’ Champions- final:
Al-Ahly won the cup and continued records
Cairo, Egypt, January 15-: Al-Ahly of Egypt continued
its records to win the eighth competition locally and
internationally in raw in two years when they won
Saturday the 23rd Arab Cup of Clubs’ Champions defeating
Helal of Saudi Arabia in the final 3-0 (25-15,
25-19-25-19).

Busy Season for Morocco Volleyball
Gala Championship is a new Build up for African
Volleyball
Morocco Volleyball Federation is preparing for one of
the most busy seasons to go further steps towards the
continental and International levels. At the
international level, Morocco will represent Africa in
2005 Men's U-21 World Championship in India 6-14 August
with the other African Compatriot Tunisia. Morocco will
also organize the second African Men's Gala Championship
which comes as one

2005 SWATCH-FIVB Beach Volleyball World
Championships :
The World's Best Teams Start Meeting in Berlin
Berlin, Germany, June 22-: 48 Men and women teams when
they start to meet together on Wednesday to compete for
medals and places on the podium in the 2005 SWATCH-FIVB
Men's and Women's Beach Volleyball World Championships
on the Schlossplatz in Berlin. Total prize money of one
million dollars will be awarded in the competition in
both genders. Four years after the spectacular World
Championships in Austria, and two years after Rio de
Janeiro, the 2005 Beach Volleyball World Championships
will take place in the nerve centre and economic hub of
the new German capital.

RD Congo organized a
successful Coaches SAP Course
RD Congo organized a very successful coach's course 10-
17 June 2005 in the framework of SAP programme under
supervision of FIVB. The course instructor Mr. Michel
Vanermeulen expressed his
satisfaction
with the results of this course which was attended by 32
participants and 5 observers as they will help much the
development of Volleyball in this important area in the
continent.
The course was attended by a group of the most famous
local coaches like Mr. Crispin Muleba, the coach of VC
Casteb boys, Mr. Bertin Bukasa, VC Nigritta coach and
Mr. Damas de Kijana, VC Lewis coach. Twenty seven out of
thirty two participants passed the course successfully.

A new board of
administration
was
elected in Dakar for Senegal Volleyball Federation on
May 11. Abdoulaye Baba SY was re-elected as a president
of the federation for a new mandate in presence of the
Technical Consultant of Sports Minister, Mr. Ameth Fall.

Niger: a New Volleyball Revolution
The Nigerian Volleyball Federation (FENIVOLLEY) has to
fight very hard, and this since several years, in order
to develop Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in the
country. This fight is not useless: the purpose would be
reached if young players developed gradually their sense
of belonging to a team, if they acquired a spirit of
collective play and if they could defend their colors
better, through these sports they love so much.

EGYPT VOLLEYBALL CONTINUED AFRICAN PREDOMINENCE
Cairo, Egypt December 30-: CAVB President, Dr. Amr
Elwani was re-elected Thursday as Egyptian volleyball
Federation President for the third period till 2008. The
Board of administration included also Hasan
Ahmed,
the CAVB Referee commission president and FIVB Referee
commission secretary in the position of Vice-president,
Dr. Hosam Bahgat, CAVB Medical Commission President as a
treasurer and Khalid Nasif, Sameh Hamdy, Mohamed Abou
Elfotoh and Amr Makhlouf as members.

FRUITFUL VOLLEYBALL EFFORTS
IN NIGER
In an attempt to change the volleyball map in Niger to
compete for the international level, the Niger
volleyball Federation (FENIVOLLEY) under presidency of
Mr. Sidiyane Amada made a great effort
to
prepare generations of youth through 25 development
centers all over the country. These centers included 12
in the capital Niamey.

Solidarity Tournament in Togo
Togo Women and Benin Men clinched the Title
Lome, Togo, December 25-:
The Organizer Togo women team and Benin men Team won the
title of the
ninth Solidarity Tournament held in Lome, Togo. The
competition which showed three teams in each category
and supported by France under supervision of the FIVB
was very successful helped to increase the volleyball
activity of the Francophone countries.
In the Women’s final Togo defeated Burkina Faso
3-1(20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-13). Togo superstar Dodo
Pisso led here team by here strong hits and effective
block.

Solidarity Tournament in Togo
Benin
Men defeated the Organizers
Lome, Togo, December 21-: Benin volleyball men team
defeated the organizers Togo 3-2 in the opening of the
ninth Solidarity Tournament which is held every year in
a western African Country with French support and under
supervision of FIVB in Omnisport Stadium in Togo capital
of Lome.
The five setters match (26-24, 21-25, 25-17, 19-25,
15-9) was very exciting and full of modern volleyball
and attracted the spectators.

Nigeria
Volleyball supporters established new club
Aiming to increase the area of Volleyball supporting
Audiences in the different fields in
Nigeria,
The Nigerian Volleyball Federation helped to inaugurate
a new organization for volleyball spectators named
Nigeria Volleyball Supporters Club. The Organization was
an idea during the 8th All Africa Games in Abuja,
Nigeria 2003 where they had an important role in
supporting the Nigerian men and women teams when both
reached the final spot with the women getting the gold
medal.

GSU, Pipeline, Telkom to
represent Kenya in African Club Championships
THE General Service Unit (GSU) men team and Kenya
Pipeline ladies retained their national championships
title after outplaying their opponents in the Kenya
Volleyball Federation play-offs at Kasarani.
GSU who came back from a set down to beat Kenya
Commercial Bank (KCB) 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18)
and Kenya Pipeline who hammered Telkom Kenya 0-3 (25-18,
25-10, 25-23) earned a ticket to represent Kenya in
African Clubs Volleyball Championships.

AFRICA VOLLEYBALL GETS
BENEFIT FROM CONFEJES MEETING
CAVB Executive director, Mr. Charles Panou represented
the Confederation of African
Volleyball (CAVB) in the meeting of consultation between
sport development partners in Africa organized by the
CONFEJES in Dakar- Senegal from 20 to 22 October 2004.
The meeting was attended by 7 International Federations
(Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, Rugby
and School Sport Association.) and 9 African Sports
Confederations delegations 7 of them were headed by
their presidents (Athletics, Boxing, cycling, handball,
Judo, Rugby, table tennis and School Sport Association)
and two were represented by official mandated
delegates.(badminton, volleyball). Olympic Solidarity
was represented by its Deputy Director Pamela VIPOND.

AFRICA HONORS ACOSTA
In the name of African Volleyball Confederation and all
National Federation, CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani
remitted a decoration (Necklace) to FIVB President Dr.
Ruben Acosta during the 29th FIVB World Congress in
Porto, Portugal to congratulate him for the great
achievements he did to the sport and particularly his
permanent support to Africa and in honor of his twenty
years at the helm of the world wide volleyball
federation .

Rome, Italy July 16-: in a big ceremony attended by a
number of big characters headed by FIVB President Dr.
Ruben Acosta, the drawing of lots of 2006 World
Championship was held in the beautiful Giardino
d’inverno room in Westin Excelsior hotel in the Italian
capital of Rome in presence also of CAVB President Dr.
Amr Elwani.

EGYPT STARTS PREPARATION TO
ALL ARAB GAMES
Egypt men volleyball team started the preparation to All
Arab Games in Algeria October 2004 by playing three
friendly matches against Croatia men team in Cairo this
week in three successive days in Cairo Stadium hall as
Egypt had a stunning 3-1 victory in the first match
after a very good performance of Egyptian players
specially Hamdy El-Safy and the efficient setter Mohamed
Abdel-Rahman.
