BENIN SOLIDARITY
TOUR CHAMPIONS
Benin won the eighth Francophone Solidarity Tournament
which was held this month in Niamey, Niger Capital. Five
Francophone countries participated in this competition
all from the western part of the continent, Benin,
Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Togo. The five teams
played a round-robin then the first two teams played in
the final.
Benin defeated Burkina Faso, the winner of the first
seven competitions, in the final 3-1 (21-25, 25-21,
25-20, 25-16). The competition was very successful and
is considered the best since it started with French
cooperation in 1993. Togo was appointed to host the
ninth edition in 2004 with a new women competition for
the first time to enhance the women category in Africa.
The final of the women championship next year will be
held in July 31 which is the African Woman Day.
The next Solidarity Tournament will include also
international Referees appointed by CAVB and
International Referee or Coaches Coarses.
The competition was covered for the first time by a big
mass media including T.V Channels, Radio and press.
