14th AFRICAN WOMEN'S NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP
EGYPT WON THE TROPHY AND QUALIFIED TO WORLD CUP

Egypt women team won the most successful African Nations Championship in Nairobi, Nigeria to qualify to the world cup in Japan 1-15 November 2003 and to become the sixth Egyptian team to qualify to a big FIVB competition after senior men and women in the World Championships 2002, Boys Under 19, Men's Under 21 and Girls Under 18 in 2003.
Tahani Toson, the best player in Africa for 10 years led Egyptian team to win crucial Kenya clash in the final 3-1(25-19-22-25, 29-27, 25-19) by her high performance in spiking and blocking to win also the best player's trophy.
Cameroon won the bronze medal dismissing Algeria in the third place match 3-1(25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20), and Tunisia got the fifth position defeating Seychelles 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 30-28). In the match of the seventh and eighth places RD Congo defeated Senegal 3-2 (28-26, 25-22, 23-35, 18-25, 15-12).
The competition was very successful. In the Final the competition Hall was full of spectators and many people were on the stairs of the tribune. More than 9000 persons attended the final in a hall of 6000 capacitance and they present very nice and fair public. The final match was very interesting with long rallies and spectacular actions in presence of the Minister of Sport, the Director of Sport Council and local authorities. The demonstration of fair play by all actors; players, Coaches, and fans gave the competition a nice atmosphere although the Organizer lost the final. There was also a good performance of the referees with no complaints of any team
The organization of the competition was very good and the organizer prepared farewell party in the last day with demonstration of dance by each delegation. Friendship between the delegations, players and officials, was apparent and it was really a great achievement for African volleyball.
