14th MEN'S AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP
7 AFRICAN COUNTRIES COMPETE FOR A PLACE IN THE WORLD CUP
Seven African countries will compete for a place in the
World Cup 2003 in Japan, through their participation in
the 14th Men's African Nations Championship in
Cairo-Egypt 1-7 August. The African Champion will
qualify to the World Cup in Japan 16-30 November 2003.
One day before the drawing of lots which will be held
Thursday 31st July, Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon, Rwanda,
Algeria, Morocco and South Africa ensured participation
in what is expected to be the strongest ever African
Nations competition. All the big forces will participate
with at least four teams favorite to win the Cup, the
organizer (Egypt), Cameroon the defending champions,
Tunisia the African representative in the last World
Championship 2002 and the new force Algeria.
The seven teams will be divided into two
groups, one with three teams headed by
Egypt and the other with four teams
headed by Cameroon
