Egypt faces Cuba in the last
intercontinental round weekend
Cairo,
Egypt, June 27-: Egypt men’s volleyball team seek the first ever
World league victory when they meet Cuba in the sith and last
weekend of the intercontinental round Pool C on Friday and
Sunday 29 June and 1 July here at Cairo Stadium Complex. The
match will be the second trial for the new head coach of Egypt
Ahmed Zakaria who replaced the Polish head coach Grzegorz Rys to
prepare the team for the important condensed calendar for the
Egyptian team in 2007 starting from the next month All Africa
Games where they defend their gold medal achieved 4 years ago in
Abuja 2003.
The host team had condensed training sessions during the last
week preparing for the meeting og the Cuban team after they
played two exciting matches in Havana =, Cuba in the first week
end of the World League. Egypt will be full team with all the
superstars available including the italy based professional
Abdalla Abdel Salam who plays for Treviso the Italian League and
Cup winner this season, the team captain Hamdy El Safi, the
strong opposite Ahmed Salah and the wing spiker Saleh Fathy.
“The most important value of our participation in this World
League is that we have got a big experience of playing the
highest standard of the sport all over the world,” Said the
Egyptian head coach. “I think this experience will be very
valuable when we play this season in four big occasions
including All Africa Games in Algeria in July, African Nations
championship In South Africa in September and this qualifying to
the 2007 World Cup, All Arab Games in Egypt in October and the
African Olympic qualifications in January 2008.” He added.
On the other hand Cuba arrived to Egypt directly from Kazan,
Russia after they played in the fifth weekend against Russia
where they lost twice to retard to the third position behind
Russia and Serbia. They had three training sessions before their
first match against Egypt.
