Egypt full squad in the third
weekend against Russia
Cairo,
Egypt, June 6, 2007-: Egypt Men’s Volleyball team will be full
squad for the first time in this year’s World League when they
play Russia in third weekend of the intercontinental round on
Friday and Sunday 8 and 10 June in the big hall of Cairo Stadium
complex. It will be the first local match for Egypt in the
competition.
The Italian based main setter Abdalla Abdel Salam who plays for
the Italian team Treviso joined the team for the first time
after he was absent in the first and second weekend due to his
duty with his team in the Italian competition.
The team Captain Hamdy El Safy is added to the squad also after
he was absent due to the end year exams. Both players will be
included in the final squad of 12 players for both Russian face
of.
Egypt still seeks the first ever World League victory in their
second participation in the prestigious FIVB event. The Polish
head coach of Egypt Grzegorz Rys is very optimistic with his
team’s performance in the last four matches against Cuba and
Serbia away and considered this performance much better than in
the 2006 edition. “I feel we played much better this year than
last year,” Said Egypt head coach. “We will be full team in this
weekend only against Russia after we missed many stars in the
last weekends. Actually we didn’t have enough time for
preparations because the Egyptian league ended very late
followed by the participation of two teams in the African clubs
champions championship in Niger. We also faced two teams (Cuba
and Serbia) who have full squad of professional players in the
big European leagues.” Rys added.
The Egyptian coach was glad with the fighting spirit of the
Egyptian players in the last two weekends and hopes to continue
this spirit in Cairo against Russia. “I know we will face a very
experienced team which is star studded, but we will do our best
to achieve the first victory.” He concluded.
The Russian team arrived to Egypt on Wednesday and will have a
training session on the main hall of the match on Thursday. The
Russian team is second now on Pool C with point differential
after Cuba, both with seven points and a win- loss ratio of 3-1,
while Egypt comes at the bottom of the table with 4 points from
0-4.
