Niger ready with the entire infrastructure to host the biggest volleyball event

Niamey, Niger, April 18, 2007-: Niger put everything in order to organize the biggest 2007 CAVB event at the club level, the twenty sixth Men's African Club Champions Championship known to start in the Niger capital of Niamey on Friday. The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) inspection visit was performed by CAVB board member Mr. Okba Gougam from Algeria who expressed his satisfaction with the entire infrastructure needed to bring this competition to complete success including the two competition venues Le Palais du sport and L'Academie des Arts Martiaux as well as the hotels that host the teams.

"I'm happy to see these preparations for the competitions which is very satisfactory for the big event," Said Okba Gougam after his inspection visit. "My only observation is to add one more court for the teams' training. We hope to see successful competition showing our continental progress." He added.

The competition will feature 18 teams who send their final candidature to participate in this edition expected to be one of the strongest competitions in history led by the defending champions and one of the big favorites Al Ahly of Egypt who has the record of titles (8 crowns). Egypt will be represented by another big club El Guish (Army) who ended the local Egyptian league in the third position following the withdrawal of the runner up of the Egyptian league Zamalek from this competition.

Cameroon will be represented by two very well known clubs FAP and Port Douala who are regular participants in the competition. Ethiopia will be represented also by two teams Mugher Cement and Defense Sport Club in the framework of the regular participation of their teams decided by the Ethiopian volleyball federation which started this year as they had also two teams in the women's Club competition early this month. Maouloudia of Algeria will be one of the big favorites as they were one of seven clubs honored by this cup. Kenya will be represented by their champions General Service Unit GSU and Congo Brazzaville by the famous Inter club.

Other clubs are Tiko SC from Madagascar and Churchill Bulldogs of Zimbabwe, VC La Montoise of RD Congo and Plateau Rocks of Nigeria as well as Niger Champions.

La CAVB approuve les infrastructures Nigériennes pour la 26ème édition du Championnat d’Afrique des Clubs Champions de Volley-ball


La qualité des infrastructures sportives et hôtelières du Niger a beaucoup pesé dans la balance pour sa désignation en tant que pays organisateur de la 26ème édition du Championnat d’Afrique des Clubs Champions de Volley-ball, même si par ailleurs la Confédération Africaine de Volley-ball(CAVB) récompensait en cela les efforts fournis par ce pays pour la promotion de la discipline.

Comme à chaque édition, la semaine dernière, la CAVB a dépêché le Comité de Contrôle de la compétition à Niamey pour une mission d’inspection des infrastructures sportives et hôtelières. Cette mission conduite par Gougam OKBA, Président de la Fédération Algérienne de volley-ball et Membre du Conseil d’Administration de la CAVB, a séjourné du 02 au 04 avril 2007 à Niamey, où elle a visité le Palais des Sports, l’Académie des Arts Martiaux et quelques hôtels dont « Le Ténéré », partenaire de la Fédération Nigérienne de Volley-ball.

Gougam OKBA s’est dit agréablement surpris de voir des salles de compétitions de normes internationales et des hôtels de très grande classe à Niamey.

L’unique objection de M. OKBA résidait au niveau du terrain d’entraînement et il a suggéré à la Fédération Nigérienne de volley-ball(FENIVOLLEY) de placer deux terrains à l’Académie des Arts Martiaux pour ainsi assurer la disponibilité de trois terrains toutes les matinées, en maintenant les après-midi pour les compétitions.

Ainsi donc la Confédération Africaine de Volley-ball(CAVB) approuve les infrastructures sportives et hôtelières du Niger pour l’organisation, du 19 au 28 avril prochain à Niamey, de la 26ème édition du Championnat d’Afrique des Clubs Champions de Volley-ball.

Niamey, aux normes internationales, arrondit les derniers angles de sa préparation en attendant la décision de la CAVB sur le nombre et les noms des clubs retenus pour cette 26ème édition. Pour sa part, le pays hôte serait plus à l’aise avec douze clubs, nombre qui s’adapte à merveille à la suggestion de M. OKBA sur les terrains d’entraînement.
