Brazil beats Russia to claim the title, Egypt 10th and Morocco 12th

Casablanca, Morocco, July 15, 2007 - Brazil became the 2007 Men's Junior World Champions for the third time, after a stunning 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) victory in the final in Casablanca, over defending World and European Champions Russia, on Sunday. The victory was not only another impressive addition to the collection of championship titles for Brazil, including the World League crown, but it was a sweet revenge on the team to whom they lost in the 2005 Junior World Championship final in India. The South American champions landed their first Men's Junior World title in 1993 in Argentina before repeating this superb performance 2001 in Poland. The African representatives Egypt and morocco ended the competition in the 10th and 12th positions respectively.

Slovenia beat Egypt 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16) for the ninth and tenth positions. Egypt played better than the first confrontation between the two teams in the preliminary pool B and were nearer to achieve the victory. Egypt ended the competition on the 10th position. Japan edged hosts Morocco 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21) for the 11th position and 12th position.
Semifinal
Brazil and Russia through to final, Egypt plays for the ninth position

Casablanca, Morocco July 14, 2007 – The two favorites ahead and World champions Brazil and Russia played accordingly and booked themselves a spot in Sunday's final of the FIVB Junior Men's World Championship, after respective wins over Italy and Iran respectively. This will be a repetition of the 2005 gold medal match in India, were Russians beat Brazilians 3-0. Also this encounter will be the same between these two teams in the World League final to be played on Sunday in Katowice.

In Casablanca, Egypt played with a superior performance and won Japan 3-1 (24-26, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19) and now will play Slovenia on Sunday for the 9th and 10th position. Japanese Daisuke Yako was the best scorer of this match with 24 points.

Also in an early Saturday match in Casablanca, the host Morocco lost against Slovenia 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23) and will play for the 11th and 12th position against Japan. Slovenian Ziga Zupanc was the best scorer of the match with 13 points.

Brazil, Russia, Iran and Italy into semi-finals, Egypt and Morocco play for 9-12

 Casablanca, Morocco, July 11, 2007 – The two African representatives Egypt and Morocco will compete for positions 9- 12 in the 2007 FIVB Men's Junior World Championship in Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco after both came at the bottom of their pools in the preliminary round. Three continental champions – Russia (Europe), Iran (Asia) and Brazil (South America) joined Italy to compose the top four teams of the competition, after an emotional and surprising final round day, to reach the semis on Wednesday in Casablanca and Rabat. 

 Defending seven-time world champions Russia set the local supporters in Rabat alight with some truly magical spells of Volleyball in their three set win over African Champion Egypt. The European Champions powered through the game 25-12, 25-17, 25-21, getting the tickets for the weekend last round in Casablanca. In the semis Russia will play Iran that qualified to semifinals for the first time ever by wining Morocco. Asia will still be represented in the semifinals after in Pool A, Asian champions Iran had it easy with hosts Morocco and won in three sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-14. Iran qualified into the top four for the first time ever and will play the defending World Champion Russia on Saturday waiting for a miracle.

Egypt achieved the first African victory, Brazil stopped USA

Casablanca, Morocco, July 9, 2007 – Egypt Volleyball Junior team clinched the first African victory at the fourteenth Men’s Junior World Championship here at Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco in the third day of the preliminary round. The highly performed Egyptian players swept Argentina 3-1 in their pool B match. The host team Morocco suffered their third defeat against Italy in straight sets.

In Pool B, Egypt got it right this time and played an excellent game to score an upset victory 3-1 (25-16, 25-23, 24-26, 23-25) over Argentina and World Champion Russia beat Slovenia 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22).

Other results on Monday saw Bulgaria beat Japan 3-2 (24-26, 25-19, 25-16, 21-25, 15-12) and Italy beat hosts Morocco 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-13) in Pool A. Morocco got the third successive defeat and is at the bottom of Pool A.

Egypt and Morocco lost, USA stuns defending Champions Russia in straight sets

Casablanca, July 8, 2007 – In a day full of thrills, both African representatives the host Morocco and Egypt lost their second match in a raw in the second day of the 2007 Men’s Junior World Championship held at Casablanca and Rabat in Morocco, while the defending champions Russia lost against USA in the competition biggest surprise..

In Casablanca, hosts Morocco registered their second defeat in a row against Bulgaria in three sets (20-25, 19-25, 16-25). Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov was the best scorer of the match with 17 points. It was the shortest match of the championship so far, lasting just 70 minutes only. For Morocco Mohammed Alaoui was the main spiker with seven points.
Dramatic defeat for Morocco and Egypt in the opening

Casablanca, Morocco, July 7, 2007 – Egypt volleyball Junior team was near a big victory over the strong USA team before losing narrowly in a tie breaker in their opening match in Pool B of the 2007 Men’s Junior World Championship in Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco; Hosts Morocco and South American champion Brazil suffered shock defeats and Italy had a stunning victory.

In the most exciting match of the day in Rabat, coach Andy Read of USA led his side to a 3-2 victory over Egypt. USA won the crucial match 17-25, 26-28, 25-16, 25-22, 18-16 in the only tie breaker of the day.

Russia, seven times junior world champion gave a wonderful volleyball show winning the South American champions in a repetition of the final 2005, were Brazilians also lost before the European champions. In the best match of group B in Rabat, the Russians won 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 27-25, 25-13 in 1h51). The top scorer of the match was Denis Biryukov with 20 points. On the Brazilian side, Tiago Barth made 13 points.
Morocco meets Japan and Egypt facing USA in the opening

Casablanca, Morocco, July 7, 2007 – The 2007 Men’s Junior Volleyball World Championship launches on Saturday here with the host team playing Japan in the opening day at the Complexe Sportif Mohammed V. the other African representatives Egypt meets USA team in an attempt to achieve better than the Ninth position they had in their last participation in Iran 2003.

The defending champions, Russia tries to capture their eighth World Title at this event to be played in the cities of Casablanca and Rabat between July 7th and 15th. The drawing of lots put the host country Morocco with Iran, Cuba, Italy, Japan and Bulgaria in Pool A, while Brazil, the defending champions Russia, Argentina, Egypt, U.S.A. and Slovenia are in Pool B.

Morocco, host team, will have strong support from the home crowd and will be aiming to improve the 11th position of the last Junior World Championship in India 2005, even if faced with strong opposition from the world’s elite teams.

Russia will have to work hard to retain the title. The squad of Viacheslav Zaitcev will contest Pool B (Rabat) and has Brazil, Argentina, Slovenia, USA and Egypt as opponents. Their first match on Saturday at the Salle Ibnou Yassine Agdal gymnasium will be against the South American champion, Brazil, silver medalists of the last two Junior World Championships in Iran 2003 and India 2005 and two time junior world champions (2001, 1993).

Egypt and Morocco seek positions between the last eight

Casablanca, Morocco, June 11, 2007 – The reaction of the coaches of the two African representatives in the 2007 Men’s Junior Championship to be held in Morocco July 7-15 towards the drawing of lots of the finals between the last 12 teams was controversial as the Egyptian coach Sherif El Shemerly sees that it puts his team in the much stronger side while the Moroccan coach find it easier to achieve a surprise of qualifying to the second round.

The Egyptian coach thought that the late collection of the players due to their end year exams id the most important problem for his team before competing with the strongest teams all over the World in this age category. “We hope to win at least 2 matches in the first round to secure a ticket between the best 8 teams,” Said Shemerly. I hope the other African eam Morocco can also pass to the final 8 teams because this will lead to more success in organization of the competition.” He added.

The 2007 Men’s Junior Volleyball World Championship will take place between July 7 and 15 in two venues, Casablanca and Rabat. The drawing of lots put the host country Morocco with Iran, Cuba, Italy, Japan and Bulgaria in Pool A, while Brazil, the defending champions Russia, Argentina, Egypt, U.S.A. and Slovenia are in Pool B.

Mr. Yuri Chesnokov, FIVB Delegate, presided the drawing of lots ceremony held at the Sidi Mohamed Casablanca Sports Hall. He was assisted by Mr. Abdelhadi Ghzali, Master of Ceremony and President of the Moroccan Volleyball Federation.

Morocco ready to host the big event
Casablanca, Morocco, April 16, 2007-: Morocco becomes ready to host the biggest ever volleyball event in history when they organize the fourteenth edition of Men's under 21 World Championship in Casablanca and Rabat 7-15 July 2007. Morocco Volleyball Federation President Mr. Abdelhadi Ghzali held a wide press conference in presence of the competition Press Director Mrs. Touria Aarab at Grand Hotel I Casablanca in presence of more than 150 journalists and other media including TV directors and radio channels where they declared the final preparations to host the big event.

The Moroccan president showed the final preparations of the competition halls through the court directors and all the transportation tools of the teams before during and after the competition. He also stated that all the hotels become ready to receive the teams with great welcome.
Egypt starts preparation with new blood

Cairo, Egypt, February 19-: Egypt men’s Under 21 team started the active preparation to the 2007 World Championship of this age category known to be held in Morocco in July 2007 under supervision of the experienced head coach Sherif El-Shemerly. The preparation starts with the participation in the Egyptian first division league as the Egyptian Volleyball Federation decided to consider the junior team as a separate team in the league with all its club stars to gain the experience of playing with the senior teams.

Morocco Junior team which also qualified to the world championship will come to Egypt at the end of March for a collective camp which will include 4 friendly matches between both teams. This camp will be followed by another camp in Italy during April with the participation in a tournament with some national teams. Egypt will play then some friendly matches with the substitutes of the first team in May when the players will enter the exams of the end of the year thereafter.
