Press Conference

Tunisia Head Coach, Mohamed Mounir Gara:

My players started the match very stressed to bring the second position after they lost the possibility to win the cup, but I think we improved gradually during the match till we reached our best at the end. Today Marouane Garci and Amenallah Hmissi were the best players from my side while Abdel Ilah Wahbi was the best in the Moroccan team. Generally I’m satisfied with the final result of the competition and I think Egypt was the best team to win the cup as they have more tall players than the other teams but my team was better from the tactical point of view.
Morocco Head Coach, Mohamed Abdallaoui:

I’m satisfied with the results of the competition and the bronze medal we achieved specially we had the shortage of centre blockers who were injured. According to our weak preparation programme I think we showed considerable performance. My best players today were the setter Hicham Fiazid and the Ahmed Bartali.

Match No. 9: Algeria vs. South Africa

The better Algerian team in spiking, blocking and backline defense defeated South Africa 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-20) in 59 minutes to get the fourth position leaving South Africa at the bottom of the table without any victory. The Algerian stars Nassim Tartag, Billel Soualem and Hamza Adrar with the setter Messaoud Debbih played the main role of the victory whilr the South African team was competitive only in the second set where they led several times but finally they lost due to the frequent reception and digging mistakes.

Algeria dominated the net from the start of the match through the better blockers and spikers. They led 8-6 by the skilful setting of Messaoud Debbih to all net positions. Algeria used the bad reception of the South African team to continue their lead to reach 16-9. Algeria again used the strong spikes of Nassim Tartag and Hamza Adrar to win the set 25-14 in 18 minutes.

South Africa improved the reception in the second set and used their best player Ricky Govender to penetrate the Algerian block and thus they led for the first time 8-6. Algeria rearranged their line up and used the strong wing spiker Billel Soualem to regain the lead 16-14. The Algerian solid block of Mohamed Bait and Tartag played a role to overcome South Africa spikes and win the set 25-21 in 20 minutes.

The Algerian players fell in many reception and service mistakes in the third set to allow South Africa to lead again 8-7 by the first technical time out before Algeria used as usual the wing spikers Chahine Zaichi and Adrar to pick a rapid victory of the set 25-20 in 21 minutes.

Press Conference:

Algeria Head coach, Kaci Said

We played a relaxed match today because we know the standard of our opponent. I’m happy with my first victory but not with the final ranking as we had the capacitance to achieve better position. We came to the competition to compete for an advanced position but the defeat in the first match against Morocco in the first match affected much the potential of my players.

South Africa Head Coach, Abdelhamid Elwassimy

We came here to prepare a team for the future and to be present in such important occasions and I thing we achieved our goal although we lost all the matches. I decided to add two players of this team to the fist team who are Ricky Govender and Peter Size and I will put also Clinton Stemmet and Quellin Govender under the microscopy for the future team.
Match No. 8: Egypt vs. Morocco

The more skillful Egyptians defeated Morocco and clinched the cup

Egypt used the high performance of the middle blockers Ahmed Aly and Mohamed Abdel Moneim and the magic state of the setter Hassam Yousef who was chosen by his coach as the match star, to achieve a straight sets victory over the Organizers and defending champions Morocco 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 in 64 minutes. Morocco team was affected by the absence of the main 2 middle blockers due to injury and they couldn’t compete with Egypt on the net action which made it easy for Egypt to penetrate.

Egypt started the match very aggressively and used the wing spikers Ramy Nakhla and Ahmed Yousef to penetrate the Moroccan block and lead 8-5 and 16-9. Morocco team increased the activity of the spikers specially Mohamed Allaoui and Sofiane Hajjam to decrease the point difference but the Egyptian blockers prevented them from using their skills and so they ended the set 25-16 in 20 minutes.

The Egyptian coach noticed the weak point in the Moroccan team and used the central part of the net to penetrate through the outstanding middle blocker Mohamed Abdel Moneim and Ahmed Aly as they used the fast attacks to lead all through the second set 8-4 and 16-12. Morocco tried to use the spike service to stop the Egyptian attacks but the Egyptian back line defense and reception was good enough to put their team ahead and win the set 25-18 in 22 minutes.

Morocco tried to save the match by improving the digging against the Egyptian hits but the Egyptian setter reached to his best performance to lead his team through his skillful sitting to the middle blockers and Mohamed Eldaabousi in position 2 and thus Egypt led also all through the set except one time when Morocco led 3-2 but afterwards Egypt kept the rhythm to win the set 25-16 in 20 minutes.

Press Conference:

Egypt Head Coach, Sherif El Shemerly:

The match was very difficult because we played four successive days and we entered this match after a difficult face of against Tunisia yesterday. We know the weakest point in Morocco team was the Middle blockers so we used our blocker to send their efficient spikes to Morocco team. We did good squatting for the opponent before the match and we used this to achieve this important victory which qualified my team to the 2007 World Championship. In my opinion my setter Hassam Yousef was the star of the match.

Morocco Head Coach, Mohamed Abdallaoui:

We had a great problem before the match because we missed our best blockers Ahmed Bartaki and Kamal Ouali due to injury thus our weak point was the middle of the net and this was used well by the Egyptians who are the best team in this competition and I think they are a big team that can achieve surprises in future. The biggest problem for us in this competition is that the players don’t have experience with the big competitions like the Egyptians who played in the World Championship under 19 in Algeria.

My players played to the size of the match and didn’t appear with their full capacity except the setter Hicham Faiazid. Now I’m thinking of the match tomorrow against Egypt because it is the actual final of the competition, but still I’m thinking that Egypt is the best team in the competition till now.

I’m disappointed with my team’s performance today because they didn’t apply my strategy except in the second set when they were near to win the set. We are not satisfied with the performance in the competition till now but this exposure is very important for our future.

The best player in my team today was Karim Brini and in South Africa, Ethen May.

We missed our best player and this affected our performance but I’m satisfied with the performance. We are looking forwards to win our next match against Tunisia which is considered an early final of the competition.

My players were physically affected by the great effort they did yesterday against Morocco in the five set match and this allowed the experienced Egyptian team to take over the match easier than expected. We had weak service that allowed Egypt to apply the strategy of the fast attacks through their middle blockers. We had also weak reception and that affected our attacks. The Egyptian team is the best in the competition and I think they are the nearest team to pick the cup.
