Match No. 10:
Tunisia vs. Morocco
Tunisia defeated Morocco easily 3-0 to
clinch the silver Medal
Tunisia used as usual their big guns
Marouane Garci and Karim Brini to clinch
a respected victory over Morocco 3-0
(25-18, 25-14, 25-23) in 65 minutes. The
organizers were affected as usual by
their permeable block due to the injury
of their centre blockers, which was used
by the more experienced Tunisian team to
get the second position with seven
points leaving Morocco in the third
position with 6 points.
Tunisia was better from the start of the
match and used their strong spikers
Marouane Garci and Karim Brini to lead
all through the set. Morocco blockers
tried to close the way but Tunisian
spikers were better to win the set 25-18
in 22 minutes.
The second set was one side game for
Tunisia as they dominated the net to
lead all through using the inaccurate
reception and backline defense while the
Tunisian team dominated the net to win
the set 25-14 in 17 minutes.
the third set was the most competitive
for Morocco as the team improved in both
setting by the competition best setter
Hicham Faiazid and the better reception
and digging by the libero Hicham Elhaou,
thus the match went point by point after
Tunisia was leading in the first and
second technical time out. The result
reached the draw 20-20 and 22-22 till
Tunisia ended the set narrowly 25-23 and
the match in straight sets.
Press Conference
Tunisia Head Coach, Mohamed Mounir Gara:
My players started the match very
stressed to bring the second position
after they lost the possibility to win
the cup, but I think we improved
gradually during the match till we
reached our best at the end. Today
Marouane Garci and Amenallah Hmissi were
the best players from my side while
Abdel Ilah Wahbi was the best in the
Moroccan team. Generally I’m satisfied
with the final result of the competition
and I think Egypt was the best team to
win the cup as they have more tall
players than the other teams but my team
was better from the tactical point of
view.
Morocco Head Coach, Mohamed
Abdallaoui:
I’m satisfied with the results of the
competition and the bronze medal we
achieved specially we had the shortage
of centre blockers who were injured.
According to our weak preparation
programme I think we showed considerable
performance. My best players today were
the setter Hicham Fiazid and the Ahmed
Bartali.

Match No. 9:
Algeria vs. South Africa
The better Algerian team in spiking,
blocking and backline defense defeated
South Africa 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-20)
in 59 minutes to get the fourth position
leaving South Africa at the bottom of
the table without any victory. The
Algerian stars Nassim Tartag, Billel
Soualem and Hamza Adrar with the setter
Messaoud Debbih played the main role of
the victory whilr the South African team
was competitive only in the second set
where they led several times but finally
they lost due to the frequent reception
and digging mistakes.
Algeria dominated the net from the start
of the match through the better blockers
and spikers. They led 8-6 by the skilful
setting of Messaoud Debbih to all net
positions. Algeria used the bad
reception of the South African team to
continue their lead to reach 16-9.
Algeria again used the strong spikes of
Nassim Tartag and Hamza Adrar to win the
set 25-14 in 18 minutes.
South Africa improved the reception in
the second set and used their best
player Ricky Govender to penetrate the
Algerian block and thus they led for the
first time 8-6. Algeria rearranged their
line up and used the strong wing spiker
Billel Soualem to regain the lead 16-14.
The Algerian solid block of Mohamed Bait
and Tartag played a role to overcome
South Africa spikes and win the set
25-21 in 20 minutes.
The Algerian players fell in many
reception and service mistakes in the
third set to allow South Africa to lead
again 8-7 by the first technical time
out before Algeria used as usual the
wing spikers Chahine Zaichi and Adrar to
pick a rapid victory of the set 25-20 in
21 minutes.
Press Conference:
Algeria Head coach, Kaci Said
We played a relaxed match today because
we know the standard of our opponent.
I’m happy with my first victory but not
with the final ranking as we had the
capacitance to achieve better position.
We came to the competition to compete
for an advanced position but the defeat
in the first match against Morocco in
the first match affected much the
potential of my players.
South Africa Head Coach, Abdelhamid
Elwassimy
We came here to prepare a team for the
future and to be present in such
important occasions and I thing we
achieved our goal although we lost all
the matches. I decided to add two
players of this team to the fist team
who are Ricky Govender and Peter Size
and I will put also Clinton Stemmet and
Quellin Govender under the microscopy
for the future team. |
Match No. 8:
Egypt vs. Morocco
The
more skillful Egyptians defeated Morocco
and clinched the cup
Egypt
used the high performance of the middle
blockers Ahmed Aly and Mohamed Abdel
Moneim and the magic state of the setter
Hassam Yousef who was chosen by his
coach as the match star, to achieve a
straight sets victory over the
Organizers and defending champions
Morocco 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 in 64
minutes. Morocco team was affected by
the absence of the main 2 middle
blockers due to injury and they couldn’t
compete with Egypt on the net action
which made it easy for Egypt to
penetrate.
Egypt started the match very
aggressively and used the wing spikers
Ramy Nakhla and Ahmed Yousef to
penetrate the Moroccan block and lead
8-5 and 16-9. Morocco team increased the
activity of the spikers specially
Mohamed Allaoui and Sofiane Hajjam to
decrease the point difference but the
Egyptian blockers prevented them from
using their skills and so they ended the
set 25-16 in 20 minutes.
The Egyptian coach noticed the weak
point in the Moroccan team and used the
central part of the net to penetrate
through the outstanding middle blocker
Mohamed Abdel Moneim and Ahmed Aly as
they used the fast attacks to lead all
through the second set 8-4 and 16-12.
Morocco tried to use the spike service
to stop the Egyptian attacks but the
Egyptian back line defense and reception
was good enough to put their team ahead
and win the set 25-18 in 22 minutes.
Morocco tried to save the match by
improving the digging against the
Egyptian hits but the Egyptian setter
reached to his best performance to lead
his team through his skillful sitting to
the middle blockers and Mohamed
Eldaabousi in position 2 and thus Egypt
led also all through the set except one
time when Morocco led 3-2 but afterwards
Egypt kept the rhythm to win the set
25-16 in 20 minutes.
Press Conference:
Egypt Head Coach, Sherif El Shemerly:
The match was very difficult because we
played four successive days and we
entered this match after a difficult
face of against Tunisia yesterday. We
know the weakest point in Morocco team
was the Middle blockers so we used our
blocker to send their efficient spikes
to Morocco team. We did good squatting
for the opponent before the match and we
used this to achieve this important
victory which qualified my team to the
2007 World Championship. In my opinion
my setter Hassam Yousef was the star of
the match.
Morocco Head Coach, Mohamed
Abdallaoui:
We had a great problem before the match
because we missed our best blockers
Ahmed Bartaki and Kamal Ouali due to
injury thus our weak point was the
middle of the net and this was used well
by the Egyptians who are the best team
in this competition and I think they are
a big team that can achieve surprises in
future. The biggest problem for us in
this competition is that the players
don’t have experience with the big
competitions like the Egyptians who
played in the World Championship under
19 in Algeria.
|
Match No. 7:
Tunisia vs. Algeria
Tunisia Defeated Algeria using 3-0 the
Dominant front line
Tunisia used the strong front line
players Marouane Garci and Karim Brini
and the skilful setter Amine Zouaoui to
set the competition second victory over
Algeria 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 26-24) in 68
minutes. Tunisia was the better side in
all volleyball skills and used this
technical dominance to widely lead in
all sets except the third one which was
the most competitive in the match when
the Algerians used their strong spikers
Billel Soualem and Chahine Zaichi.
The match started balanced between the
two teams as it went point by point till
the draw 7-7, when Tunisia dominated the
net through the blocking of Aymen Ben
Hassine and Malek Melliou to lead 16-10.
The point deficit increased due to the
mistakes of Algerian players in block
and back line defense till they tired at
the end of the set to catch the set and
used the strong spike service to disturb
the Tunisian reception, but Tunisia won
the critical points of the set to win
25-21 in 21 minutes.
Tunisia continued the same rhythm in the
second set to lead 4-0 after a group of
strong spikes of Marouane Garci and
Karim Brini and continued leading 8-3.
Algeria improved their block through
middle blocker Billel Soualem and
Abdelhak Bettache to reach to 9-8.
Tunisia used again the big guns Garci,
Brini and Amenallah Hmissi to penetrate
the Algerian defense and increase the
point deficit till they won the set
comfortably 25-17.
Tunisia continued their upper hand on
all volleyball skills to lead 8-5
through the skillful setting by the
match star Amine Zouaoui. Algeria
improved their block through Chahine
Zaichi and Soualem and thus they came
near to Tunisia till the draw 24-24, but
the more experienced Tunisian players
ended the most exciting set of the match
26-24 in 25 minutes to win the match in
straight sets. |
Match No. 6:
Morocco vs. South Africa
Morocco swept South Africa in straight
sets
The organizers Morocco used the net
dominance to pull of an easy victory
over South Africa 3-0 (25-18, 25-23,
25-10) in 60 minutes of one side game
except in the second set that was the
most competitive for South Africa.
Morocco Coach tried to use most of his
squad to relief his players before the
critical encounter against Egypt on
Thursday.
Morocco started the match as the better
side in the net action as they used
their strong spikers Mohamed Alaoui and
Soufiane Hajjam to lead 16-11. South
Africa came to the match through Kamal
Ouali and struggled against the better
Moroccan team to narrow the score but
Morocco succeeded to win the set 25-18
in 20 minutes.
In the second set the South African team
became more competitive with the
participation of their star Ricky
Govender as they came close to morocco
all through till the draw 17-17. South
Africa was better in reception and back
line defense and this allowed them to
build up the attacks using the setter ,
but Morocco succeeded to win the
critical points of the set to clinch the
set narrowly 25-23 in 23 minutes.
The third set was one side towards
morocco who dominated completely the
match through their strong spike service
and also the efficient spikes of win
25-10 in 17 minutes.
Press Conference:
Morocco Head Coach, Mohamed
Abdellaoui:
The match went exactly as I expected as
we played a team without high
capabilities and so I asked my players
to be serious in the match in order not
to lose a set like what happened for the
Egyptians. My players played to the size
of the match and didn’t appear with
their full capacity except the setter
Hicham Faiazid. Now I’m thinking of the
match tomorrow against Egypt because it
is the actual final of the competition,
but still I’m thinking that Egypt is the
best team in the competition till now.
South Africa Head Coach, Abdelhamid
El Wassimy
I’m disappointed with my team’s
performance today because they didn’t
apply my strategy except in the second
set when they were near to win the set.
We are not satisfied with the
performance in the competition till now
but this exposure is very important for
our future.

Match No. 5:
Egypt vs. Tunisia
Egypt
defeated Tunisia 3-1 with the
impermeable block
The impermeable Egyptian block of
Mohamed Abdel Moneim and Ahmed Ali and
the unstoppable spikes of Mohamed
Eldaabosi and Ramy Nahkla allowed Egypt
to win the clash against their arch
rivals Tunisia 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-22,
31-29) in 98 minutes of volleyball
skills. Egypt came from one set behind
due to weak reception to win three
successive sets using the block that
finalized the situation to their side.
Tunisia started the match more
concentrating and used the strong spiker
Marouane Garci to penetrate the unstable
Egyptian block and thus they lead 8-5.
Tunisia used also the mistakes done by
the Egyptian players in reception and
service to continue leading 16-9.
Egyptian players improved afterwards and
used the strong spiking from position 4
through Rami Nakhla and position 2
through Mohamed Eldabousi to decrease
the point deficit to 24-21 before
Tunisia ended the set 25-21 in 22
minutes.
Egypt appeared with a completely
different performance in the second set
and their block improved to stop the
Tunisian big guns by the net and lead
8-4 by the first technical time out.
They used also the strong spikes of
Nakhla and Ahmed Yousef to penetrate the
Tunisian block and increased the point
deficit to 16-7. The Egyptian setter
Hossam Yousef deceived the Tunisian
block several time and used the
efficient spikers of his team to end the
set 25-15 in 27 minutes.
The third set was very exciting as Egypt
started the same rhythm to lead 16-12
after a group of skillful spikes from
Eldabousi from position 2 and Ahmed
Yousef from position 4. Tunisia
decreased the point deficit after the
brave performance of Garci and Brini in
spiking and Hamissi in blocking to reach
to the draw 22-22 for the first time.
Egypt performance rise to the utmost to
win three successive points and win the
set 25-22 in 27 minutes.
The thrills reached to the utmost in the
fourth set as Egypt used the solid block
to stop the Tunisian strong spikers and
led 8-6. Egypt continued the leadership
in the net action to reach to 16-13.
Afterwards the Tunisian performance
reached to the peak through the strong
spikers Garci, Brini and Hamissi to
reach the draw 24-24 when the match
passed to the most exciting part as it
went point by point till Egypt won 31-29
due to their efficient block and won the
match 3-1.
Press Conference:
Egypt Head Coach, Sherif El Shemerly:
My team was disturbed in the first set
by the strong Tunisian spike service
that affected our performance due to bad
reception. But after that my team
received well and started to show up the
attacking power. The most important
point of our dominance was the good
block that was the main factor to gain
the points. My attacker also succeeded
to pass the solid Tunisian block several
times specially in the second and third
sets. We are looking forwards now to win
our last match against Morocco to
achieve the cup and qualify to the 2007
World Championship.

Match
no. 4: Tunisia vs. South Africa
The
Technically better Tunisia defeated
South Africa in straight sets
The Favorite Tunisia started their match
in the competition by a wide victory
over the less experienced South Africa
in straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-19)
in 64 minutes. Tunisia used their big
guns Marouane Garci and Karim Brini to
penetrate their opponent’s block. The
Tunisian coach used some bench players
during the match to distribute the
effort before their important match
against Egypt, while the South African
team was affected by the injury of their
player Ricky Govender. They struggled
against better team in volleyball skills
but they proof that they are promising
in the near future when they get enough
experience.
Tunisia started the match more stable in
block and backline defense to lead 8-5
after a group of successful spikes from
Aymen Ben Hassine and Marouane Garci.
South Africa came to the match through
their better block and of Ephraim Ngoma
to come near 14-12 before Tunisia
dominated the net again and used their
spike service to disturb the South
African reception and win the set 25-15
in 20 minutes.
Tunisia started the same rhythm in the
second set and used their big gun Garci
and the skillful setting by Amine
Zouaoui to lead 8-4 and 14-7. South
Africa coach made some substitutions to
control the block and defense but
Tunisia used again the wing spikers
Amenallah Hmissi and Karim Brini to win
the set 25-16 in 23 minutes.
Garci did a good job again in spiking
from position 4 but South Africa
improved their reception and block to
lead for the first time 8-7. Tunisia
again came to the match after some
substitutions and used the spikes of the
star Karim Brini to win the set 25-19 in
21 minutes and the match in straight
sets.
Press Conference:
Tunisia Head Coach, Mohamed Mounir
Gara:
We played with most of the squad in the
match today to distribute the effort on
all the players before the next
important matches. South Africa was
affected to by the absence of their best
player Ricky and I think their players
did well although their little
international experience. We don’t have
one star for the team as we depend on
the collective team work so we wanted to
put all the players on this experience.
The best player in my team today was
Karim Brini and in South Africa, Ethen
May.
South Africa Head Coach, Abdel Hamid
Elwassimy:
We missed our best player and this
affected our performance but I’m
satisfied with the performance.
Unfortunately we played the hardest
matches against Egypt, then Tunisia
first but I think we have the
opportunity to compete in the next
matches against Algeria and Morocco. The
most important thing from this
participation is to win a team for the
future.

Match
No. 3: Egypt vs. Algeria
The
New Look Egypt defeated Algeria in
straight sets
The new look Egyptian team showed much
improvement in their second match
against Algeria than their first match
against South African to clinch a
straight sets victory (25-19, 25-15,
25-17) over Algeria in 59 minutes. The
Egyptian block of Mohamed Abdel Moniem
and Ahmed Aly and the efficient spikes
of Mohamed Eldabousi and Ahmed Yousef
made the difference against Algerians
who were affected by the great effort
done in their first five set match
against Morocco 24 hours before.
The Algerian team used the skillful
setting by Debbih Massaoud and the
strong spikes of Ahmed Bey to get the
lead from the start 8-5. Egypt came to
the match after the first technical time
out and used the efficient spikes of
Mohamed Eldabousy from position 2 to
lead 16-15. Algeria started to use the
back line spiking through Billel Soualem
and Bey to come near, but the better
Egyptian side ended the set finally
25-19 in 19 minutes.
Egypt dominated the net in the second
set and used the solid block of Mohamed
Abdel Moniem and Ahmed Aly to lead 8-7
and then 16-13. Algeria struggled to
save the set and their head coach made
some substitutions to increase his
attacking power but Egypt had a solid
block enough to finish the set 25-15 in
21 minutes.
The third set showed early activity from
the Algerians through Chahine Zaichi and
Abdelhak Bettache but Egypt regained
their rhythm in blocking to reach 8-5 by
the first technical time out. Egypt
dominated the match completely to win
the set 25-17 in 19 minutes.
Press Conference:
Egypt Head Coach, Sherif El Shemerly:
We studied the Algerian team well
through the video in their match against
Morocco and we succeeded to put the
tactics to win this critical match. We
succeeded also to treat the defects of
our block that appear in the last match
against South Africa and our block was
the star of the match today. We are
looking forwards to win our next match
against Tunisia which is considered an
early final of the competition.
Algeria Head Coach, Kaci Said:
My players were physically affected by
the great effort they did yesterday
against Morocco in the five set match
and this allowed the experienced
Egyptian team to take over the match
easier than expected. We had weak
service that allowed Egypt to apply the
strategy of the fast attacks through
their middle blockers. We had also weak
reception and that affected our attacks.
The Egyptian team is the best in the
competition and I think they are the
nearest team to pick the cup.

against the efficient spikes of the
Algerian team. I want to thank my
players specialyy Naoufal Maskali for
their high performance in the match.
Algeria Head coach, Kaci Said:
My players did their best in the match
and their performance was affected by

Match
No. 1: Egypt vs. South Africa
Egypt
clinched the first victory over South
Africa 3-1
Egypt used the strong spike service and
the strong hits of Mohamed El Dabousi
and Ahmed Afifi to defeat South Africa
3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 23-25, 25-12) in 93
Minutes.
South Africa team started the match more
motivated and thus they used their
spikers Ephraim Ngoma and Ricky Govender
to lead 4-1. Egyptian team came to the
match to lead for the first time 7-6 and
16-13 after they adjusted the block of
Mohamed Abdel Rehim and Ahmed El Sheikh.
Afterwards Egypt dominated the net
action to end the set 25-17 in 20
minutes.
Egypt continued the same rhythm in the
second set and used the strong spike
service to disturb the South African
team and led 8-6. Egypt started to use
the opposite player Mohamed El Dabousi
and the middle blocker Ahmed El Shikh to
widen the point deficit to 16-10. The
South African team couldn’t adjust their
backline defense against the Egyptian
spikes and this allowed Egypt to win the
set 25-13 in 17 minutes.
The third set was the best for South
Africa as they used the decreased curve
of Egyptian performance specially in
blocking to lead several times 8-7,
12-11 and 20-18 through the block of
Peter Size and the spikes of Ricky
Govender and Nathan Earnest. They used
the frequent mistakes of the Egyptian
team in defense and block to win the set
25-23 in 27 minutes.
Egypt started the fourth set more
concentrating and the setter Hossam
Abdalla started to use the fast setting
by the net and this disturbed the South
African defense. South Africa struggled
to save the match but Egypt was better
enough to win the set 25- 12 and the
match 3-1
Press Conference:
Egypt Head coach, Sherif El Shemerly:
We are happy to achieve the first
victory in the competition but we are
not happy with the performance the team
specially the blocking which needs some
improvement before the stronger matches
starting from Algeria tomorrow. I think
we lost the third set because we were
not concentrating in the match specially
the block which affected also the
backline defense. My team was affected
also because we didn’t play enough
friendly matches before the competition
and I think we will improve in the next
matches.
South Africa Head Coach, Abdel Hamid
Elwassikmy:
I think we are satisfied with our first
performance in the competition against
respected team. We didn’t play any match
before the competition so new hope to
improve in the next matches after the
players get enough experience. We hope
also to use some of these players for
the senior team in future. |
