CAVB Vice- President Baba Sy passed away

Cairo, Egypt, February 8, 2010- The African volleyball Confederation (CAVB) lost one of the great pillars of volleyball all over the world after the CAVB Vice- President Mr. Baba Sy passed away in the capital of Senegal in Dakar on Monday after a long fight with the illness during the last two years.

Baba Sy who is also a member of the FIVB coaching commission was one of the major anchors of the development of the sport not only in Africa but also in most of the world continents through his participation in the world wide courses. He sincerely cared about the welfare and the development of the game and never ceased to offer the best of his expertise and effort and time towards its growth.

He has generously given his heart and mind during his many years of fruitful service at CAVB, and stayed to work for the African volleyball till the last day of his life.

The CAVB Board of administration decided in its last meeting to establish a new competition under the name of “Baba Sy challenger” for the teams qualifying to the FIVB competitions as a preparation for the African teams.

CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani received this news with tremendous sadness and sent a mourning letter to his small family in Dakar and the volleyball family all over the world

My dear colleagues & friends,

It is with tremendous sadness that I relay to you that Mr. Baba Sy – the Vice-President of CAVB - has passed away .

We have just learned the disturbing news an hour ago and it had brought us great grief .

As you may all know that Mr. Baba Sy was not only an active Vice-President of CAVB till his decease, but he was a great pillar for volleyball and a major anchor of development for African Volleyball.

For as many years back as anyone can remember, he have always been the supporter and truthful friend, guide and mentor to many African members of volleyball family.

He sincerely cared about the welfare and the development of the game and never ceased to offer the best of his expertise and effort and time towards its growth.

He has generously given his heart and mind during his many years of fruitful service at CAVB , and for that it is our hope that we will continue benefit from his inputs in the best way possible .

He lead a life dedicated to the service of the game where we shared – himself and I – many beliefs and thoughts.

We share with you the CAVB and my personal grief for his loss and our sincerest sympathy and condolences goes to his family and friends. We pray God to grant him kindness and mercy and may his soul rest in peace.

Mes chers collègues et amis,

C’est avec grande tristesse que je vous communique que M. Baba Sy - le Vice-président de la CAVB, - nous a quittés.

Nous venons d'apprendre les nouvelles angoissantes il y a une heure et qui nous avaient apporté du chagrin immense.

Comme vous le savez tous, M. Baba n’y était seulement un vice-président actif de la CAVB, jusqu'à son décès, mais il était un pilier de grandeur au volley-ball et d’un rôle majeur au développement du volley-ball Africain.

Pour des années, beaucoup plus longues qu’on se souvient, il était toujours un ami fidèle, un guide et un supporteur pour de nombreux membres de la famille africaine de volley-ball.

Il s’est sincèrement toujours inquiète au bien-être et au progrès du jeu et n’avait jamais cessé d'offrir le meilleur de son expérience, efforts et temps à son development.

Il avait généreusement beaucoup offert pendant ses nombreuses années de service à la CAVB, et nous espérons que nous continuerons à bénéficier de ses apports avec de grande réussite.

Il avait mené une vie consacrée au service du jeu où nous avons partagé de nombreuses croyances et pensées sur le sujet.

On voulait vous faire part de la CAVB perte que j’avais reçu avec tant de chagrin et d’exprimer notre profonde sympathie et nos condoléances à sa famille et ses amis. Nous prions a Dieu de lui accorder de son bien, et que son âme repose en paix.

Nous vous remercions tous d'avoir pris le temps de partager avec nous ce moment.
