KVF sends out appeal for funds to host the competition
Nairobi, Kenya, Tuesday March 23: As the clock ticks away to
this year’s Women’s African Volleyball Club Championships, Kenya
Volleyball Federation (KVF) has sent out an urgent appeal to
sponsors to come on board and support the event.
Addressing a press conference after chairing a national
executive committee meeting, in Nairobi over the weekend, KVF
President Waithaka Kioni revealed that they require KShs
10million (US$ 125,000) in order to host successful
championships.
The KVF President said while they expects to raise half of the
amount required from participating teams in form of
participation fees, they are appealing to the government and
sponsors to help them raise the difference.
“Hosting a successful championship requires huge funding and
that is why we are sending out a passionate appeal to the
government and sponsors to come forward and assist us with
funds,” Kioni said
The women club event which throws off at Moi International
Sports Centre in Kasarani at the end of this month has seen a
record entry of teams and KVF will have to use their vast
experience in organizing championships in order to make the
championships a success.
Apart from hosts Kenya who are expected to be represented by
defending champions Kenya Prisons, Kenya Commercial Bank and
Kenya Pipeline, other top clubs from Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon,
Nigeria, Tunisia and Rwanda will grace the continental club
event.
According to KVF Sports Organizing Secretary Walter Otieno, all
arrangements for hosting the championships have been complete
and they are expecting a very competitive championship this
year.
“Apart from funding which we still have to look around for
assistance, technical aspects of the championships have been
taken care of and we are just waiting for the D Day since most
clubs have confirmed their participation,” Otieno said.
Apart from Kenya Prisons, KCB and Kenya Pipeline, other clubs
expected to participate in the championships are Al Ahly
(Egypt), Bejaia (Algeria), Bafia (Cameroon), APR and National
University (Rwanda), VC Club (RD Congo), Federal Prisons
(Ethiopia), Water Sport (Morocco), LES (Burundi), Kampala
Amateur Club (Uganda) and El Defaa (Sudan) among others
