Rivalry renewed at the Beach this Sunday

Uganda, February 27, 2009- Beach Volleyball players will renew their rivalry on Sunday the 1st of March as the Club National Circuit re-unveils at Lido Beach Resort. Top teams expected to rally for the day's crowns are likely to be the regular pairs of Harriet Tukahirwa/Florence Nannyondo, Alice Okecho/Lilian Okiror, Viola Akisa/Vivinne Aketch, Dorothy Nampiima/Carol Atim in the women's category while the men will reckon the likes of Jeff Lwalanda/Lawrence Yakan, Luke Eittit/Isaac Omedo, Hannington Nsubuga/Alex Nduhukire, Richard Tamale/Peter Buyungo in the one day Nile breweries sponsored championship.

However the ladies got to watch out for 2008 1st seed Mariam Nakamanya who intends to team up with former partner and star Prossy Alobo to deny anybody access to the her envied seat. The pair won the first two events of 2008 before Prossy took a brief leave off the game.

At individual level Mariam Nakamanya followed by Sophy Nanyonga are currently in leadership while Jeff Lwalanda tying with Lawrence Yakan is closely followed by Luke Eittit in the men's class.

All eyes will be focused on boarding the national squad truck as Uganda prepares to field a maximum pack during the region?s first international event in 2009 come June at the Mombasa seaside.

Meanwhile the regional body East and Central Africa Beach Volleyball Council (ECABCO) is in the final process to be officially incorporated into the existing East & Central Africa Volleyball Confederation to continue spearheading beach volleyball development in vast Sub-Saharan area. The Kenyan based ECAVCO General Secretary Mr. Jacob Owiti disclosed to the current regional beach chief Mofaht Masaba in an email this week.
