Sadik Nasiwu elected now President of Uganda Volleyball Federation 2009-2012

Kampala, Uganda, February 17, 2009- Following an unprecedented mammoth turn up of over 125 delegates from Premier Clubs, Schools and District Associations for the Uganda Volleyball Federation Elective General Assembly, Sadik Nasiwu emerged winner after a closely contested battle with the incumbent Aisu Tom Omongole who has been at the helm since 1999.

The election regulated by National Council of Sports representative Mr. Timothy Ssemakula Magala was the last item on the agenda of the 4 hour meeting with 84 eligible voters drawing their choices in a secret ballot for the posts of President and Treasurer as the rest of the positions were unopposed.

Sadik won by just 2 votes garnering 43 votes against Omongole's 41 votes.

The post of treasurer had three candidates with Incumbent Geoffrey Lwalanda picking 23 votes, Nkumba's Godwin Ssenyondo 28 votes and Sport S's Joseph Odongo winning with 33 votes.

The elected board of administration members shall in their first sitting appoint 7 more members to head a number of commissions including Sports organizing commission, referees commission, Coaches commission, Schools commission, medical commission, beach volleyball council, Park Volleyball Council. Meanwhile the vacant board positions of 1 premier club representative and 3 district associations’ representatives can only be filled in a subsequent general assembly as they returned no contestants in the concluded congress.

President - Mr. Sadik Zaid Nasiwu (replaces Mr. Aisu Tom Omongole)

1st Vice President - Mr. Nason Bwesigye (incumbent)

2nd Vice President - Ms. Patricia Ahumuza (replaces Ms. Safina Nagayi)

Secretary - Mr. Cornelius Egwenyu (replaces Mr. Kafumbe Kigozi)

Assistant Secretary - Ms. Pheobe Tucungwire (replaces Ms. Joyce Achan)

Treasurer - Mr. Joseph Odongo (replaces Mr. Geoffrey Lwalanda)

CAVB ex-officio - Mr. Aisu Tom Omongole (by virtual of Tom being vice president of the Confederation of African Volleyball the constitution requires him to automatically be part of the executive)
