2008 CAVB Commission meeting

Amendments in the competition regulations and establishing zonal qualifications for all CAVB competitions

Cairo, Egypt, - The CAVB sports Organization Committee (SOC) put the new CAVB competition regulations that will help to improve the African Championships according to the approval of the 2007 CAVB Congress. The meeting held at CAVB headquarters in Cairo, Egypt was attended by the major CAVB Board and commission members led by CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani and CAVB vice president Tubby Reddy.

The commission discussed the reports of all the Control Committee presidents of the African competitions in the last few years to find out all the drawbacks of the organizations to put the solutions before the 2008 competitions with production of CAVB operations manual for all African competitions. They made all the amendments required for progress in the competition regulations. The commission put also the new beach volleyball competition regulations and also system of ranking.

The Women’s African competitions of clubs champions and cup winners’ cup will be combined in one competition starting from 2008.

The meeting also discussed the development plan that have been presented by Dr. Elwani during 2007 CAVB Congress in Kenya before the implementation of the full plan which includes improvement of communications centrally with CAVB and peripherally with the National Federations and improving the marketing strategy. The plan includes also enhancing the beach volleyball competitions at the continental level as well as establishing the African ranking. One of the main targets of the plan is to improve marketing strategy of the African competitions and attracting more sponsors for the main competitions. The commission approved the implementation of the zonal qualifications at all the competition levels to increase the number of participating teams.
