Algeria vs. Botswana
All
Africa Games gold medalists Algeria needed 57 minutes to clinch
a straight sets victory (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) over Botswana in
pool A. The victory raised the win- loss ratio of the Algerians
to 2-0, while Botswana dropped to 0-2. Algeria started the match
with the main line up and succeeded to make a good start winning
the first set 25-17 through the efficient spikes of Faiza Tsabet
who was as usual the match scorer with 14 points and Lydia
Oloumou who applied the fast attacks. Botswana came to the match
in the second set as they improved their block against the
Algerian attacks through Tsholofelo Retshbile and also they
improved the backline defense so they succeeded to lead 8-4 and
16-14. The Algerian coach returned back to the standing line up
to win the set 25-21. The third set showed again a good start
for Botswana as the spiker Botshelo Kgogobi who was chosen by
her coach as the best player in his side did well to allow her
team to lead 8-6 aided by the team best scorer Dipolelo Nkele.
The Algerian coach tried to save the power of the standing
players and pushed some bench players but finally they deployed
their block against Botswana attacks to win the set 25-17.
Algeria head coach Mouloud Ikhedji tried to use many of the
substitutes to relief the main line up but he was not satisfied
completely with the performance. “We fell in many mistakes in
reception and digging which affected our performance.” Said the
coach. He added that these mistakes made Botswana to enter the
match many times in the second and third sets. “We also missed
the central blocker Lilia Bouluiza who was ill as well as many
players complain of the overload due to the effort thy did in
All Africa games. “I respect that promising team Botswana
because they did well in attacks although they lack the
experience.” He concluded.
Botswana head coach Carlos Osta Fellove was satisfied because
his team looked more confident than their first and second
matches. “I’m happy to see my team in this form against the best
team in Africa now and of course we need more experience to
maintain this as my player start each match without stress then
they lose points when they are under pressure.” Carlos added.
Cameroon vs. Uganda
Cameroon
played without the main key players Nkot, Rose and Ruth but
succeeded to set their competition second victory over Uganda
3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-16) in63 minutes. The last All Africa
Games silver medalists used a mixture of young players and some
of experienced stars and of them the left attacker Ondoua
Messina who did a good job and Cameroon could win the first set
25-16. Uganda improved their defense temporarily in the second
set and used the attacker Miriam Nakamanya to score many points
from position 4, but Cameroon again was better in defense to win
the set 25-14. The third set showed the only leading for Uganda
8-6 and 10-8 after a group of successful spikes from Miriam and
Prossy Alobo, but suddenly their performance dropped when
Cameroon retains the lead until they won the third set 25-16.
Cameroon Head coach, Joseph Nane Edne insisted to play with some
of the substitutes to give them the chance owing to the
circumstances of the match. “We didn’t prepare well before this
competition due to the short period after All Africa Games, so
we are preparing actually through the preliminary round of this
competition and I think we had today many players doing well
like Messina and Nana Tchoudjang.” Nane Said.
“We will return back to our country with many positive aspects
although we lost,” Uganda head coach Tonny Lokony said. “I think
I have to work on the defense and the setters when I return back
home because these are our weakest points. My best players today
were the wing spikers Miriam and Prossy Alobo.” He added.
Egypt vs. South Africa
Egypt secured the top of pool B with Tunisia following their
second victory in a raw over South Africa 3-0 (25-15, 25-17,
25-9) in minutes. Egypt improved their record to 2-0, while
South Africa dropped to 1-2. the Egyptian coach returned back to
his main line up pushing the centre Hagar Badr and the wing
spiker Dina Assal from the start and he succeeded to have a
disciplined attacks through the left wing through Sherihan Sameh
and Dina while the center blockers Ingy El Shamy and Hagar led
the fast combinations and thus Egypt won the set 25-15. The
second set showed improved South African reception and defense
so they led 8-6 through the efficient spikes of the attacker
Palesa Sekhonyana and the decisive combinations of the setter
Raycine Sunker. Egypt regained the rhythm to win the set 25-17
after a group of successful spikes from Sherihan and Dina. Egypt
depended on the fast attacks from the center of the net in the
third set which ended successfully by Ingy who deceived the
South African block several times so Egypt led 8-5 and 16-9.
South Africa Coach made some substitutions with younger players
to give them the experience but they couldn’t sustain as Egypt
ended the set 25-9.
Egypt head coach Hesham Badrawy tried to use most of his list of
players to settle on the main line up in the coming more
important matches. “I’m satisfying with the performance today
because we played better than the first match. The most
important positive aspect of our tactics today is the
application of the fast combinations from position 3 using the
centers and I consider my Blocker Ingy the match star today.”
Badrawy said. “I’m happy to see the youngsters Sama Ali and
Salma Badr doing well when they took the chance to play.” He
added.
South Africa Head coach Abdel Hamid El Wassimy referred the
defeat today to the tactical service played by the Egyptians all
through the match. “Actually the Egyptian service disturbed our
tactics because my team didn’t receive well. “We were
competitive in the first and second sets but in the third we
didn’t receive well and that allowed the Egyptians to build up
the attacks. Anyhow I’m happy with the performance of the new
players and we are ready for the coming events to show our
consistency.” Wassimy added.
Tunisia vs. Rwanda
Tunisia made it 2 out of 2 clinching the victory Rwanda 3-0
(25-17, 25-10, 25-12) in 52 minutes in pool B. Tunisia improved
their record to 2-0 while Rwanda dropped to 0-3 to come at the
bottom of th pool. Tunisia started the match aggressively using
all the key players led by the wing spikers Arbia Rafrafi and
Nihel Ghoul and thus they won the first set 25-17. Rwanda
complains of improper reception and digging so Tunisia used the
situation to develop the attacks which was not accommodated by
the opponents and thus they won the second set 25-10. the third
set showed the same picture as Tunisia won the set easily 25-12
and the match in straight sets
Tunisia head coach Lotfi Ben Slimane was unhappy with the
performance although he won easily. “We are concentrating now on
the meeting with Egypt which will be critical. “ He added.
Rwanda head coach Antoine Sebalinda said that the fast attacks
of the Tunisian players disturbed his tactics because the
players lack to the experience.
