Big clashes in the opening day
of the biggest ever African volleyball competition
Blida,
Algeria, July 13, 2007-: The volleyball competition of the ninth
All Africa Games will be opened on Saturday 14th of July here at
both Moustafa Tchaker and Lysee Sportif halls in Blida, Algeria
with big clashes in both Men’s and Women’s competitions between
the big continental arch rivals. The defending champions of the
Men’s competition, Egypt who won the last competition in Abuja
2003 faces Nigeria, the last competition silver medalists in a
repeated final of 2003 edition at the thriller opening day,
while the women’s competition will feature another tough clash
between the defending champions Nigeria and one of the
competition big favorites, Kenya who were the last competition
bronze medalists as well as the African Champions in 2005.
The opening day will show also many big clashes including 6
matches in Men’s competition and the same in the Women’s. In the
Men’s championship South Africa meets Kenya in a new hope for
both teams to reach the medal podium in Pool A. South Africa
men’s team is well prepared under supervision of their Egyptian
Head coach Abdel Hameed El Wassimy, while the Kenyan men want to
follow the foot steps of their women counterparts, the usual
African champions. Pool B will show also the African Bronze
medalists Cameroon meeting Senegal and Tunisia vs. Botswana
beside the match of the day Egypt vs. Nigeria. Pool A will show
the organizers Algeria with their full team including two
professionals Guemmadi Hachemi and Hachemi Mehdi who plays for
the French team tours meeting Seychelles and Ghana vs. Congo.
In the Women competition the favorite Algerian team wants the
support of their spectators when they meet Ethiopia in pool A
which show also South Africa facing Ghana and Congo playing
Seychelles. In pool B there is a big face of between Egypt women
the last competition silver medalist and the big favorites
Tunisia and Cameroon plays Senegal.
The competition will feature the biggest ever number of
participating teams including 24 teams in both men and women
categories. The teams of each category are divided into two
pools of six where they play in a round robin system to qualify
the first two teams of each pool to the semifinal while the
other teams play in the ranking positions.
