2007 Women’s World cup:

Volleyball is all my life: Ruiz

Kumamoto, Japan, November 11, 2007- The system of the World Cup requires highly physically fit players specially in the Women’s competition where the player should perform 11 matches in 15 days including the travel days between the Japanese cities, but for the Cuban star Yumika Ruiz no problem with that as she was the most prominent player in the competition to keep her performance steady all through the competition till now.

Ruiz decided to devote her life to volleyball. Even her study is also in the sports field as she is making researches in physical education specially in volleyball field. The strong Cuban wing spiker is single because she wants to concentrate her life on her sports carrier before being involved more in her social life so she is keeping her concentration dedicated to volleyball.

From the technical point of view, Ruiz is considered the most important item in her coach’s strategy. Antonio Perdomo, using a different strategy than any other coach in the competition and playing with two setters, depends much on the ability of Ruiz to spike from both the front and backlines.

“The most important advantage of Ruiz is that she keeps her performance almost the same all through the match.” Her coach Perdomo said. “She can play five sets with the same performance and it is very important for us because we were the team playing a record of tie breaks in this competition.”

Ruiz made a lot of trouble for the opponent coaches with her unstoppable spikes even with the most disciplined blocks because she can jump with her flexible body above and sent her rockets to their field. The Brazilian head coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes was one of those coaches who suffered a lot from Ruiz’s hits during Brazil vs. Cuba match. “I considered during the match that we were facing a Men team because the spikes of Ruiz were nearer to men’s style than the women’s.” Guimaraes said.

Ruiz played for her national team since 6 years and wants to continue playing for her country until she feels that she is unable to keep her performance. “I Like volleyball, it is my life, so I devoted my life to my beloved sport” Ruiz confirmed.
