qualifications determined and Ambitious development programme in
order
Nairobi, Kenya, October 27, 2007-: The 2007 CAVB Ordinary
congress Presided by Dr. Amr Elwani expressed the great African
Unity when the representatives of the attending 33 countries
declared their full loyalty to the FIVB constitution and they
expressed their support to the CAVB Board of Administration to
lead the Continental volleyball to more progress and success.
The second and last day of the CAVB Congress showed
presentations of all the continental zones and commission
presidents which showed much progress since the continental
governing body decided to make the zonal competition as a
qualifier to the continental competition. The reports showed how
these competitions increased the number of participating teams
from 16 to 30 countries in 2007.
The
time table of the African Olympic qualifications was finally
determined during the Congress by the Organizers. CAVB first
vice- president Tubby Reddy and the president of South Africa
Federation determined 1-10 February 2008 for the men’s
qualifications in Pretoria, while Algeria Volleyball Federation
President Okba Gougam, the organizer of the Women’s
qualification determined the schedule 20-29 January 2008.
Zone I president Okba Gougam showed the competitions of the zone
and the activity through the agreement between the federations.
Zone II President Mory Keita presented the activity of the zone
that constitutes 8 countries. He mentioned in his report the
importance of using the development centre in Dakar, Senegal.
Cote
d’Ivoire President Mamadou Kone presented Zone III report in
stead of the zone president Issiaka Sawadogo who was absent. He
mentioned the difficulties that faced the zone to fulfill the
activity properly. He mentioned also the annual competition
organized in the zone under the name of Solidarity tournament.
Zone VII president Kayseeven Teeroovengdum mentioned the
activity of his zone through the Indian Ocean competition at the
club and National teams level. He presented the request of
Reunion Islands to participate in the CAVB competitions.
Zone V and Zone VI presidents Emadeldin Osman and Sesupo Mosweu
who didn’t attend the congress mentioned in their reports that
their zones showed a dramatic improvement in their activity
wither at the competition and administration levels.
CAVB
President Dr. Amr Elwani had a detailed presentation describing
the development plan and the new Mini Volley Project that will
be implemented by 2008 all over the continent.
CAVB Referee Committee President Hassan Ahmed pointed out that
the improvement of refereeing at the African level depends
mainly on the quantity and quality of the matches directed by
the referee so he advised the national federation
representatives to increase the number of matches in their local
league. He asked the NFs to take care of the referees at all
grades to increase the number of active African international
referees at the FIVB competitions.
CAVB SOC President Camilo Antao proposed to copy the
organizational procedure of the FIVB in the African competitions
and to follow the operation Manual.
Development
and technical committee president Baba Sy concluded that the
improvement of all FIVB Courses through VCP Programme is
considered one of the main options of development of the sport
at all levels. Specially for the youth coaches and teams.
Legal commission President Siven Samuel mentioned the legal
committee support for the board of administration in order to
perform their job in a correct way regarding all legal decisions
against the federations and persons who didn’t follow the FIVB
and CAVB regulations and constitutions. .
By the end of the Congress, the Kenyan President of Olympic
Committee (KOC) Dr. Kipchoge Keino invited all the delegations
for a dinner attended by Kenya Volleyball Federation President
Kioni Waithaka, Secretary General of KOC Mr. F K Paul, Treasurer
of KOC Mr. Steven Soi and KOC member David Okeyo.
